Job Description - Senior Structural Engineer

As a Senior Structural Engineer at Integrated Sustainability Consultants, you will have the opportunity to expand your career through working on exciting and high-profile water and waste projects.

Your experience in industry and/or consulting, as well as your project and people skills will enable you to make a difference in our industry and inspire new and better ways to implement engineering solutions.

You will participate in all areas of our portfolio and project phases, from feasibility level to detailed design/execution. You will be an integral part of our Engineering Team developing and implementing technical solutions in both the office and the field.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with Design Engineers and fellow Senior Designers you will be responsible for the complete design and documentation package for structural deliverables.
  • Produce deliverables as required to fulfill project needs either as an individual contributor or as part of a team of structural engineers and designers, dependent upon project size and scope.
  • Site enquires and visits which involve preparing field investigations, reviews, and reports.
  • Steel details, concrete/rebar details, and standard drawings.
  • Material take-offs (MTOs), estimates, and other similar tasks.
  • Work from schematics, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  • Assist other designers and other disciplines with project deliverables.
  • Report project progression updates and/or issues to Lead Designers or Project managers.
  • Prepare structural engineering designs from conceptual design through to detailed design, tender and construction in accordance with Canadian Codes and Standards. Working with other national codes may be required, pending project requirements.
  • Peer-review design drawings and calculations within the group.
  • Perform site visits, inspections, and preparation of reports relating to existing and new structures.
  • Perform evaluation and analysis of existing structures for modifications and additions and propose reinforcement solutions.
  • Foster critical relationships with clients, technical and non-technical staff, government representatives, and technology suppliers.
  • Establish cost and schedule for project deliverables.
  • Interface with other departments to develop and implement multi-disciplinary project strategies.

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of experience in an industrial and/or consulting environment is preferred.
  • Associate degree or certificate of completion from an accredited drafting program or bachelor’s degree in civil/Structural engineering from a recognized University (master’s degree would be considered an asset).
  • Advanced knowledge of software including MS Word and Excel, AutoCAD, REVIT, Inventor and Navisworks.
  • Fundamental understanding of structural design and standards.
  • Registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and/or Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Designated Structural Engineer (Struct. Eng.) in AB/BC preferred.
  • Experience designing heavy steel and concrete structures.
  • Proficiency in the application of Canadian Codes and Standards.
  • Experience with structural analysis software (i.e., STAAD, RAM, SAP2000, Visual Analysis, etc).
  • Understand and adhere to all applicable drafting standards and verify the completeness of design drawings.
  • Understand and follow all requirements for revision progression, quality processes, and change management.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings of all disciplines preferred.
  • Excellent decision-making and problem-solving ability.
  • Fluent in English with strong written and oral communication.
  • legally permitted to work in Canada.
