Seniors Program Care Assistant (Nursing Home Without Walls)

The Nursing Home Without Walls (NHWW) program at the Kiwanis Nursing Home supports older adults in Sussex and surrounding areas who would like to age in place. We help Seniors in the community to navigate supports and services that they are eligible for from Federal and Provincial programs, along with programs that are run out of the Kiwanis Nursing Home space.

JOB PURPOSE

We are seeking a warm, reliable, and enthusiastic Senior's Program Care Assistant (Resident Attendant) to support the daily operations of our senior programs. This role involves assisting with personal care (toileting, grooming, etc.), assisting with recreational and therapeutic activities, supporting mobility and transfers, and ensuring the overall well-being of our senior participants. The working hours for this role will be during our program times  about 20 hours per week.

DUTIES

• Assist with planning and organizing activities tailored to the needs and abilities of our clients
  


• Help with program setup and clean-up


• Provide personal care assistance (toileting, grooming, assistance with meals as necessary)


• Ability to effectively engage participants one on one or small group setting


• Willingness to engage and interact with seniors living with cognitive impairments like Dementia

QUALIFICATIONS

· Grade 12 Education or equivalent

· Demonstrated initiative, good judgement and strong organizational abilities

· Physically able to preform tasks and duties related to position

· Experience/education in gerontology and/or dementia care

· Experience/education in group facilitation, program planning, implementation and assessment

· Personal Support Worker certification an asset

· Activity Director experience an asset

· Training in Gentle Persuasive Approaches, U First or person centered care an asset
