Sergeant - Cybercrimes Unit (INTERNAL ONLY) 2025/26

The Cybercrime Sergeant is experienced leading teams of a specialized detectives conducting detailed risk-based and evidence focused investigations. The Cybercrime Sergeant has advanced education and experience in the area of actual or attempted criminal acts where technology is the target or an instrument of the offence. The Cybercrime Sergeant works to reduce offences, victimization and community harm.  They build capacity to address cyber threats in our community and work collaboratively with partners to detect and investigate cybercrime. The Cybercrime Sergeant is adept at leading investigations into financial crimes, online fraud and virtual offences.

 Job Description:

• Plain clothes position working 10 hour shifts


• Participate in the ISD Call Out rotation and be reasonably available for call out where an operational need exists


• Supervising and leading MCU teams to conduct a wide array of investigations, including Financial and Cyber related crimes


• Conduct file review and maintain work queues. Conduct file audits


• Create, maintain and review Business Rules


• Complete ISD Staff Sergeant duties as directed


• Build and maintain relationships with victims and accused persons


• Build and maintain relationships with community partners and work collaboratively with partner agencies


• Lead, assist and advise complex investigations with a cybercrime dimension 


• Work proficiently in the Major Case Management environment, including the Primary Investigator, File Coordinator and Team Commander (TC) Role

Preferred Qualifications:

• Continuous learner with a demonstrated ability to mentor others, and effectively manage teams


• Demonstrated experience supervising MCU investigations


• Supervisory level knowledge of MCM principles and TC experience


• Possess supervisory level affiant and interview skills 


• Demonstrated MCU level legal applications knowledge and experience


• Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise complex investigations


• Fundamental understanding of the Crown/Police Disclosure MOU and Electronic Disclosure processes


• Ability to multi-task and work effectively under compressed timelines


• Experience leading Confidential Informer and UCO investigations and projects 


• Proven ability to build partnerships and work collaboratively with Municipal Police Departments, the RCMP and other partner agencies


• Advanced risk management and threat assessment skills


• Training or related experience in Financial Crimes


• Training or related experience in Cybercrime Investigations and Digital Technologies
