Job Description - Sergeant - Training (HR) (INTERNAL ONLY) 2025/26
Reporting to the Career Pathing Staff Sergeant of the Human Resources Division, Training NCO has overall responsibility for the budgeting, coordination and delivery of training to the Department. The Training NCO oversees internal delivery of training, and coordinates training from partner agencies. (CPC, CPKN, outside police agencies)
Job Description:
Develop and maintain the departmental training plan for sworn members and jailers.
Ensure that all mandatory training requirements are met.
Manage the Department’s training budget.
Liaise with the Career Pathing NCO to ensure that long term training needs are met.
Liaise with Departmental managers and supervisors to identify and address specific training needs.
Liaise with Police Services Division, the JIBC, the CPC, other police agencies, and training providers regarding departmental training.
Monitor the recruit training progress.
Oversee and ensure the completion of JIBC Block IV reports.
Coordinate member attendance at the JIBC Recruit Simulations.
Ensure re-certification in all required training.
Participate with the Police Training Advisory Committee (PTAC) under direction of the Director of Human Resources(HR).
Continual assessment, audit and review of training. Ensure VicPD training standards meet or exceed industry standards.
Ensure VicPD training standards meet or exceed requirements of the Police Act, directives and policy issued by BC Police Services, and Case Law.
Assist in the professional development of all VicPD employees.
Assist with the delivery of training where necessary.
Supervise the Operational Skills Coordinators (Constables and Acting Sergeants)
Supervise the civilian HR coordinator(s) assigned to HR.
Oversee the Department’s e-Learning platform including course development and monitoring.
Prepare an annual report on departmental training
Assist the HR team to support employee wellness, early intervention initiatives, implementation of programs/training, reintegration, and recruiting.
Assume additional responsibilities as directed by the Career Pathing NCO including departmental audits or other special projects

Superior multi-tasking abilities.
Superior organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively liaise with internal and external individuals and agencies.
Experience managing or creating online training databases.
SUFIC or equivalent qualified.
Demonstrated experience creating and delivering training to police officers.
