SERVICE SPECIALIST
Full-Time Permanent Position

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, 37.5 hours weekly
Classification and Salary: SP5 annually $73,878.95 to $100,344.17
Location: 150 Henry Ave Winnipeg, MB
Vacation: 4 Weeks’ Vacation + 5 Wellness days per year
Under the direction of the Service Manager and working collaboratively with the Metis Child and Family Services Authority (MCFSA) Service team, the Service Specialist is required to carry out service and administrative support duties related to a broad range of MCFSA functions including completion of reports, briefing and communications materials, and serving in a supportive capacity to other services and administrative staff. The Service Specialist engages in on-going research and planning with other MCFSA and Agency staff to help advance Metis specific programs and services.
Specific to this role, the ideal candidate would have demonstrated understanding of Metis culture and communities, or the ability to attain within 6 months. Have the ability to work collaboratively within a team and other community and related service organizations to achieve MCFSA goals and objectives. Have working knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and standards, The ideal candidates would possess specific experience and knowledge in the following areas: Critical Incident Reporting, Internal Agency Reviews, Special Investigation Reviews, Review the Request for a Change in Authority and take action as outlined in established guidelines, review requests for Transfer of Guardianship and take action as outlined in the established guidelines, completing death and serious injury reporting, attending meetings and participating in cross-authority committees and internal sub-groups as required. The ideal candidate will also have superior organizational skills and an ability to work effectively under deadlines. You would possess excellent problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills; and can work independently, and with a high degree of accuracy, initiative, discretion, and good judgment. Well-developed technological skills associated with a modern office environment are a requirement of the position. Travel will be required.
A University Degree in Social Sciences, Bachelor of Social Work is preferred along with knowledge of Child and Family Services specifically to the AJI-CWI and mandated agencies’ foundations of service, An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth, and families however an alternate combination of education and experience may be considered. Extensive case management experience in child welfare, drafting correspondence and preparing reports, and experience working with Metis people.
A valid Manitoba driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle are requisites as this position will, regularly travel within and outside of the city. Mileage and accommodations if required will be compensated.
