Sessional Lecturer in Forest and Conservation Sciences in Biotic Disturbances FRST307 at The University of British Columbia

 

Applications are invited to apply for a part-time Sessional Lecturer position (term-appointment) in the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia to deliver lectures and labs for FRST307 (Biotic Disturbances, 3 Credit) in the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences. The start date is September 1, 2026, for a duration of one term, ending on December 31, 2026.  There will not be any renewal for this position.   


Position details

The sessional lecturer must be extremely familiar with all aspects of forest biotic disturbances and tree diseases in particular. They will be responsible for preparing and delivering lectures and leading active learning in the classroom and in the lab. The course (FRST307 Biotic Disturbances) is worth 3 credits and has 3 lectures (1100:1150 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday) 3 laboratory sections per week. This is a part-time position worth 1.5 credits. A full-time teaching load in the Department of Forest and Conservation Sciences is 12 credits per term, making this position equivalent to 12.5% of a full-time load. The expected salary for this position is $4,000 per credit.


Required qualifications

Candidates must have a graduate degree in Forest Sciences and research experience in Forest Pathology, focusing on pathogen biology, epidemiology and management. Candidates must also have a proven track record of teaching upper-level courses.


Preferred qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, preference will be given to applicants with:


  • A commitment to evidence-based teaching strategies that promote student engagement and learning, as demonstrated through the use of up-to-date instructional techniques, frequent formative assessments, and teaching-focused research projects.
  • Evidence of effective teaching (e.g. student evaluations).
