Course Number and Title: FAH363H1F The Mechanics of the Image in China

Course Description: East Asian images differ from Western ones in material support, format, and technologies of image-making. This course probes how East Asian images -- painting on objects, handscrolls, prints, optical media, film, and new media -- work. 

Estimated Course Enrolment: 120 students

Estimated TA Support (based on full course enrolment): 160 hours

Class Schedule: Tuesdays 5:00-7:00 pm (In Person)

Sessional dates of appointment: September 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024; Final Assessment period December 6-21, 2024.

Please note: This position includes the completion of any course work and marking not finished by December 31, 2024.

Salary: 

• Sessional Lecturer I $9,457.90
• Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term $9,930.79
• Sessional Lecturer II $10,121.77
• Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term $10,326.62
• Sessional Lecturer III $10,362.76
• Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term $10,570.01

Minimum qualifications:

• MA in Art History or a related field is required; PhD in Art History is preferred.
• Knowledge of various East Asian images (painting on objects, handscrolls, prints, film, new media, etc.) and their material support, format, and technologies of image-making are required. 
• At least two years of experience creating and marking undergraduate assignments, exercises, and/or undergraduate essays in art history or a related field.

Preferred qualifications: 

• Previous teaching experience in this or a similar course at the university level.
• Evidence of recent teaching effectiveness would be a great asset.

Description of duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including: preparing and delivering one 2-hour lecture per week and/or leading classroom discussions during the 2 contact hours each week; developing and publishing the syllabus and marking scheme through Quercus; supervision of teaching assistants; preparing relevant assignments for student assessment, and (if applicable) setting and invigilating term tests and final examination / assignments for student assessment; grading and reporting of final grades; maintaining office hours for academic counseling of students; answer queries by email or appointment.
