Sessional Lecturer for WOOD 330

General Information

WOOD 330, Industrial Engineering, is a 3 credit course offered within the Faculty of Forestry & Environmental Stewardship by the Department of Wood Science for 3rd year students in the Wood Products Processing program. This course has two lectures and one lab per week, all delivered in person. It covers the use of industrial engineering concepts and methods to analyze and improve organizations’ competitiveness. The course content includes operations strategy and competitiveness, supply chain management, time study, inventory management, Monte Carlo simulation, linear programming, and sensitivity analysis.

Job Description

The position involves preparing and delivering lectures (two lectures, one hour each) and a lab (two-hour lab) per week during the first term. Each lecture is 50 minutes in duration. The course runs from September 1 to end of December 31, 2026. The instructor will prepare course notes, slides, assignments, quizzes, case study, mid-term, and a final exam to be given during the formal exam period. The instructor will be responsible to deliver the lectures, lead the lab sessions, supervise and mentor teaching assistant(s), and provide feedback to students on assignments, quizzes, case study and exams. The instructor will need to be available to students outside normal class and lab hours to answer questions. The instructor will be responsible to maintain records of grades and to submit final grades in a timely fashion to the Department office.

The expected salary for this position is $4,000 per credit

Qualifications

Applicants should have a PhD in Industrial Engineering / Operations Research / Management Science or relevant fields, or be enrolled in a relevant PhD program and have completed their qualifying exam. The position is also open to post-doctoral fellows and research staff holding a PhD. Teaching / TA experience is needed. Familiarity with Canvas, and knowledge about wood industry, forest products supply chain, and programming are required.
