Who we are? We are a leader in First Nation Health. Our foundation is Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands. We provide accessible, quality, culturally safe and holistic health care that supports and enhances the wellness of individuals, families, and communities. We work with our 11 First Nation community partners and the IFC in the provision of primary health care, traditional healing, mental wellness and addictions, home and community support services, and health promotion services.


 


The opportunity: Reporting to the Regional Manager-Hart Hub, Shkaabewis will assist with the coordination and delivery of the Hart Hub/Mental Wellness traditional healing services client related advocacy and referrals.  The Shkaabewis will work with the Hart Hub Lead Shkaabewis and collaborating partners in the delivery of program achievement and outcomes.  In collaboration with Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services partner sites and agencies, this responsibility is with a strong emphasis on quality assurance through implementation of service policies and procedures and case management and care planning information system.  The Shkaabewis shall assume a technical support role in building on current relationships between traditional Indigenous and western healing modalities through cultural awareness and translation activities as well as supporting the access of traditional healers for individual clients.


 


 


What you need to bring with you:



  • Diploma in social services, health, education or a related profession preferred with experience in program delivery, group facilitation, adult learning and training.

  • Or equivalent combination of education and a minimum of five (5) years’ related experience

  • Knowledge of measuring tools utilized in a quality management program.

  • Proven Adult teaching abilities, group presentations and leading groups through discovery, conflict resolution and crisis intervention.

  • Strong cultural awareness, empath and understanding of a wide and diverse Indigenous community.

  • Demonstrated experience in facilitating groups.

  • Demonstrated skills in developing and maintaining successful working relations with all colleagues and partners.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills in working with First Nation clients, family and communities.

  • Must have experience working in First Nation communities with business, health care or social service programs.

  • Able to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries related to privacy laws.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.

  • Proficient skills in computer programs and electronic case management systems.

  • Knowledge and experience of Indigenous Culture, Health and Traditional healing practices

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • A criminal reference check acceptable to employer is a condition of employment.

  • Must have access to a personal vehicle, a valid driver’s license and willing to travel regularly.

What to expect?


Given the traditional practices of Indigenous people, from time-to-time exposure to smoke from the burning of sacred medicines such as tobacco, sweet grass, sage or cedar may occur.
