Shop General Labourer

The purpose of the Shop General Labourer supports daily shop and facility operations to ensure a safe, clean, and efficient work environment. This hands-on role includes material handling, equipment support, shipping and receiving assistance, and general facility maintenance duties.

The Shop General Labourer will interact with all levels of the organization including managers, engineers, quality, and fellow manufacturing employees. This role reports to the General Manager.

This role is currently vacant and is being filled due to an existing position becoming available.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

Shop & Material Handling

• 
  
  
  
  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials within the shop
  
  
  • Stage materials and assist production staff as required
  
  
  • Operate shop equipment such as band saws (training provided)
  
  
  • Remove saw scraps and waste materials
  
  
  • Maintain organization of shop areas
  
  
  
  
  

Shipping & Receiving Support

• 
  
  
  
  • Assist with incoming and outgoing shipments
  
  
  • Support packing, labeling, and material staging
  
  
  • Move materials between departments as needed
  
  
  
  
  

Facilities & General Maintenance

• 
  
  
  
  • Maintain cleanliness of shop and common areas
  
  
  • Remove garbage, scrap, and waste materials
  
  
  • Empty waste bins and smoking receptacles
  
  
  • Dispose of saw scraps and debris appropriately
  
  
  • Support general facility upkeep and housekeeping
  
  
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks as required
  
  
  
  


• Safety Specific:

  • Ensure compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations and company safety policies and procedures
  
  
  • Adhere to the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for the role
  
  
  • Participate in safety training, including regular emergency drills
  
  
  • Follow all guidelines for the safe operation of tools, machinery, and vehicles
  
  
  • Report all incidents, accidents, and near misses immediately
  
  
  • Actively look for and report potential hazards in the workplace
  
  
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, free of potential hazards
  
  
  • Practice proper ergonomics to prevent strain injuries
  
  
  • Adhere to office safety procedures, including emergency evacuation routes, fire drills, and building safety protocols

WHAT YOU NEED:

• Must have a valid forklift licence


• Must have experience operating overhead cranes


• Heavy industrial or manufacturing experience considered an asset


• Comfortable performing physical work, including lifting up to 50 lbs


• Ability to work safely and follow instructions


• Basic mechanical aptitude


• Strong reliability and work ethic
