Silent Disco Volunteer (2026)

The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-Pass, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also supports an active community by organizing events and providing wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. We are the unified voice advocating on behalf of student interests in the UFV community, ensuring each student has opportunities to thrive.

Work Schedule
Date: Wednesday, March 18th, 2026 
Location: Evered Hall, Building S, UFV Abbotsford Campus
Available Times: 2:30pm to 5:30pm (Set Up Assistance)
                             5:30pm to 9:00pm (Event Assistance)
                             9:00pm to 10:00pm (Tear Down Assistance)

Position Description 
Are you interested in getting involved on campus and meeting new people? The Student Union Society (SUS) is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our Silent Disco event. Silent Disco is a unique dance party where students wear wireless headphones and tune in to different music channels while dancing together (silently ofcourse!). Volunteers will help ensure the event runs smoothly by assisting with equipment distribution, coat check services, line management, and attendee support. This is a great opportunity to gain event experience, meet fellow students, and be part of an exciting campus event.

Responsibilities & Duties of SUS Volunteers 

As a SUS Volunteer,  your responsibilities may include:

• Set-up: Assist with preparing the event space, including setting up equipment, signage, tables, various stations before the event begins. 


• Tear-down: Assist with cleaning up the event space, including packing equipment and returning the space to its original condition.


• Registration and event support: Welcoming attendees, checking in participants if needed, and supporting SUS staff with basic event coordination.


• Headphone Collection & Distribution: Assist with distributing and collecting wireless headphones during the event.


• Coat Check: Support the coat and bag check by receiving items, issuing matching tickets, and returning items when a valid ticket is presented.


• Student support: Welcoming students and helping them navigate the event, assisting participants during the session, taking photos if needed, and supporting other volunteers or UFVSUS staff as required.


• Upholding SUS Values: Supporting, justice, equity, diversirty, and inclusivity & adhering to UFV & SUS bylaws, policies, and procedures.
  
  Note: Roles will be assigned by the SUS Services Coordinator based on availability and event needs.
  
  

Qualifications

1. Positive, high-energy personality & desire to interact with your fellow students


2. Must be a UFV Student in Winter 2026


3. Represent & adhere to SUS values on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI)


4. Ability to work well with a diverse team and contribute to a collaborative, positive event environment.


5. Previous event volunteer experience or interest in events is a plus, but not required.  


6. Available on to work the selected hours on March 18th, 2026 
   
   

Term of Employment 
This is a one day volunteer opportunity for the Silent Disco event. Applicants must be current students of UFV and take at least one course in the Winter semester.
