This is a Term 12 position with a term length of 3 years.

Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

The Simulationist is an Academic Teaching Staff member who supports the Faculty of Nursing's undergraduate, graduate, research, advancement, and global programs through the design, development, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation of simulation-based teaching and learning.

Working collaboratively with faculty and other subject matter experts, the Simulationist integrates simulation into the curriculum to create authentic experiential learning opportunities that foster clinical reasoning, critical thinking, teamwork, communication, and the application of theory to practice. The incumbent utilizes a range of simulation modalities and technologies—including, but not limited to, high-fidelity simulation, standardized clients, virtual simulation, immersive virtual reality (iVR), extended reality (XR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), and other emerging simulation technologies—to support achievement of course and program learning outcomes.

The Simulationist provides expertise in simulation pedagogy, collaborates in the development and continuous improvement of simulation-based education, and supports faculty and learners through the effective integration of simulation into teaching and learning.

This position provides classroom, laboratory, clinical, and simulation-based teaching in support of undergraduate and graduate nursing education. The role combines high-quality teaching with the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of simulation-based learning experiences while collaborating with faculty to advance curriculum, student success, and educational excellence.

• Deliver classroom, laboratory, clinical, and simulation-based instruction aligned with curriculum and program learning outcomes.
• Design, develop, facilitate, and evaluate simulation scenarios, learning resources, assessments, and educational materials.
• Foster inclusive, learner-centred environments that promote critical thinking, clinical reasoning, evidence-informed practice, and student success.
• Collaborate with faculty and teaching teams on curriculum planning, course development, quality improvement, and program evaluation.
• Facilitate simulation experiences and evidence-informed debriefings using a variety of simulation technologies and methodologies.
• Provide expertise in simulation pedagogy, technologies, and best practices while supporting faculty development and curriculum integration.
• In consultation with the Nursing Simulation Centre team, contribute to innovation and continuous improvement by evaluating emerging simulation practices, technologies, and educational standards.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current registration and good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (or successor regulatory body) is required.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. 
• Minimum five (5) years of recent nursing experience in a variety of clinical settings.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching and/or clinical education.
• Knowledge of adult learning principles and evidence-informed teaching practices, with the ability to facilitate learner engagement, clinical reasoning, reflective practice, and structured debriefing.
• Knowledge of simulation pedagogy and best practices in simulation-based education, with the ability to design, facilitate, and evaluate simulation-based learning experiences that support achievement of course and program learning outcomes.
• Strong critical thinking, clinical reasoning, facilitation, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including collaboration, coaching, conflict resolution, adaptability, emotional intelligence, and relationship building.
• Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.
• Proficiency with educational technologies and the ability to learn and effectively utilize new technologies that support simulation-based education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Nursing, Education, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Certification in healthcare simulation or simulation education is considered an asset.
• Experience in the design, facilitation, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based education is preferred.
