Job Description - Social Media Strategist

About the role

Rocscience is looking for a Social Media Strategist to lead the day-to-day strategy, planning, execution, and optimization of its social media presence across LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. The role is designed for someone who can turn social from a reactive publishing function into a structured, measurable, platform-first brand and demand engine.

This is not a post-and-schedule role. It is a hands-on strategy and execution role for someone who understands content planning, community management, reporting, platform behaviour, and cross-functional coordination. The ideal candidate is proactive, highly organized, commercially aware, and capable of moving work forward while keeping stakeholders informed and aligned.

This is an existing vacant role with expected total compensation of $75,000-$85,000 CAD, based on experience. This is a hybrid role that will be in-office 4 days/week (Monday – Thursday).

What this role will own

The Social Media Strategist will own the social calendar, content planning, cross-platform execution, community management, performance reporting, and day-to-day coordination with internal teams and subject-matter experts.

The person in this role will be responsible for making Rocscience’s social presence feel more mature, intentional, and aligned with the targets of the business and its products.

Key responsibilities

Strategy and planning

  • Own and maintain a rolling social media calendar across LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp.

  • Build platform-specific content plans aligned with business goals, product priorities, launches, webinars, events, and campaigns.

  • Translate company priorities into recurring content pillars, campaigns, and content franchises.

  • Identify opportunities to repurpose webinars, product updates, case studies, and expert insights into high-performing social content across formats.

Content development and execution

  • Write, edit, and publish compelling platform-native social copy across channels.

  • Develop clear creative briefs for design and video teams, including objective, audience, hook, message, CTA, and format requirements.

  • Partner with internal experts, product managers, and leadership to source technical content and turn it into social assets.

  • Manage recurring content series, employee advocacy packs, and monthly LinkedIn newsletter planning.

Community management

  • Monitor and respond to comments, direct messages, and brand mentions across priority channels in a timely and professional manner.

  • Engage thoughtfully with followers, customers, prospects, and industry voices to strengthen community and brand presence.

  • Escalate sensitive or high-risk issues appropriately and maintain awareness of reputational concerns.

  • Surface recurring audience questions and feedback to improve future content and campaign planning.

Analytics and reporting

  • Track performance across channels, formats, and campaigns using the most relevant platform metrics.

  • Produce monthly reports with insights, learnings, and clear recommendations for improvement.

  • Lead quarterly strategic reviews with performance trends, content analysis, and optimization opportunities.

  • Monitor platform updates, algorithm shifts, and content best practices, then translate them into actionable recommendations.

Regional and cross-functional support

  • Support regional Facebook and WhatsApp campaign needs by preparing content and asset packs for local sales teams.

  • Coordinate with marketing, product, events, and leadership to keep social aligned with the broader business calendar.

  • Help create more consistent internal processes for approvals, content requests, and reporting.

Ideal candidate profile

The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with strong execution skills. They know how to plan, write, brief, publish, analyze, and engage. They are comfortable working with technical subject matter, asking smart follow-up questions, and translating complex ideas into compelling content.

They should be comfortable owning details without losing sight of bigger business goals, and should be energized by making a brand feel sharper, smarter, and more relevant online.

Required qualifications

  • 4-5 years of experience in social media strategy, social media management, content strategy, or a closely related role.

  • Proven experience managing multiple social platforms for a brand or agency.

  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to adapt tone and structure by platform.

  • Experience creating content calendars, campaign plans, and reporting frameworks.

  • Experience with community management and audience engagement.

  • Strong analytical skills and confidence working with platform metrics and performance reporting.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally with designers, video editors, product teams, and leadership.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Nice to have

  • Experience working in B2B, software, engineering, or technical industries.

  • Experience turning webinars, case studies, or expert-led content into multi-platform social campaigns.

  • Experience building employee advocacy or thought leadership programs.

  • Familiarity with social media governance and approval workflows.

  • Experience with LinkedIn newsletters, YouTube Shorts, and Instagram Reels planning.

Why join Rocscience

The person in this role will have the opportunity to shape channel strategy, elevate expert voices, foster more meaningful audience engagement, and contribute to building a stronger brand presence across the platforms that matter most.
