the provision of settlement and integration services for immigrants and refugees.

Position Type:
1 full-time position until December 31, 2025 with a possibility of extension pending budget availability and satisfactory performance

Reporting to the Mental Health and Health Services Manager, the SEA Project Social Worker will be responsible for providing newcomers referred via the SEA Anti-Human Trafficking project with essential services to support their transition and settlement into Canada



Roles and Responsibilities:



  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments on the overall health, abilities, and needs of the clients 

  • Assess client risk of human-trafficking and make appropriate referrals to reduce risk or make supportive referrals for clients who have previously experienced trafficking 

  • Perform social work with individuals/families, and in group settings in office, school and home settings, as well as virtual services as needed 

  • Perform crisis intervention as well as solutions-focused guidance to newcomers experiencing difficulties adjusting 

  • Support clients when navigating external services such as law enforcement, child protection, shelter and the labour board, etc. 

  • Refer to and collaborate with different ANC teams and external community partners for a coordinated effort focused on the client’s overall well-being recognizing the specific impacts of human-trafficking 

  • Build client relationships to arrive at a position of trust while respecting religious and cultural backgrounds and addressing specific needs 

  • Develop and perform presentations for clients, staff, and community partners on human-trafficking and social work services 

  • Maintain case files, statistics, and stakeholder reports according to deadlines 

  • Actively participate in local and national committees and workshops to share information and build knowledge of best practices 

  • Conduct thorough needs and asset assessments for newcomers who have experienced human-trafficking, identifying their unique challenges, strengths, and support requirements 

  • Offer ongoing case management support to address a range of needs, including education, health, therapy, and social integration



Qualifications and Experience:



  • Must have a Bachelor of Social Work and be a registered Social Worker 

  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity working with a diverse client group 

  • Demonstrated social work skills working with clients (children, youth and adults) that may have experienced complex trauma such as human trafficking, violence, mental health, and addictions 

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace 

  • Strong communication skills and team-oriented 

  • Possess the ability to prioritize referrals and multitask Skilled in crisis intervention and conflict resolution 

  • Knowledge of child welfare and community development services 

  • Competency in case file management and preparing stakeholder reports



Conditions of Employment:



  • Legal authorization to work in Canada 

  • Flexible to work outside of core hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm)

  • Valid class 5 NL drivers license and daily access to a reliable vehicle is required

  • Some travel is required

  • Position is subject to a satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check from the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary
