The Opportunity:
As our Engineering Manager of the Core Data team, you'll play a critical role in shaping the future of Cronometer's technology and key data. At the heart of Cronometer’s value is our world-class nutrition data. This team owns all systems related to its ingestion, curation, and delivery — including real-time food search, multi-modal food logging, and applied AI/ML for data modeling and automation. The Core Data Team is also a hub for exploratory R&D across nutrition, machine learning, and data infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead hiring, onboarding, and performance management (reviews, development plans, feedback cycles)
Mentor and support team members through code reviews and technical guidance
Manage branches, pull requests, builds, and deployments for Core Data projects
Collaborate with the Director of Engineering to enforce and evolve department-wide standards
Prioritize work, plan team resources, and coordinate releases with Project Management and QA
Align data and R&D initiatives with the CEO and other stakeholders
Track budgets and identify opportunities for investment or optimization
Stay up to date on best practices and emerging technologies in nutrition data and software engineering
Contribute to hands-on development of features and infrastructure
Qualifications:
7+ years of professional experience in software development
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate in a distributed team environment
Experience leading a software team or in a similar leadership capacity
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
Experience with database scalability and modern data lake/warehouse infrastructure
Passion for nutrition, fitness, or health technology
Compensation and Benefits
Base annual salary range: $125,000 – $140,000 + employee bonus program
