Sr Construction Advisor, Facilities Projects, Calgary

Reporting to the Director, Facilities Projects, the Senior Construction Advisor position will be an energetic self-starter, performing a critical role, directly supporting the execution of facilities capital projects.

The successful candidate will contribute to MEG Energy’s success by applying their experience and expertise in safe construction quality and execution support of all facilities capital projects at MEG Energy’s Christina Lake. 

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Provide and demonstrate personal Safety leadership in accordance with MEG’s Environment Health and Safety Program. Provide leadership in establishing a strong Safety culture within the MEG organization, vendors, service providers, and the contractors we engage with.

  • Work closely with project management to ensure that engineering deliverables to construction are delivered in a timely manner and are consistent and compliant with MEG accepted work practices.

  • Work closely with the site construction technical team to ensure that field installations are constructed efficiently and in accordance with the design drawings, details and specifications, applicable permits and codes, MEG technical and quality criteria and other applicable industry standards; ensuring facilities are constructed according to the approved engineering design and that this can be proven with high quality, code compliant records.

  • Participate in key design reviews (3D model, constructability, risk, technical documents) and provide expert knowledge and support on design constructability.

  • Participate in estimate and schedule reviews.

  • Participate in establishing and coordinating construction schedules, resource, material, and equipment requirements for the site.

  • Accountable for construction change management (RFI/ECN/FCN/FCR/CRF/QSR/NCR)

  • Interface with Site Construction team, contractors QC representatives, consultants, offsite fabrication shops, applicable regulatory bodies, Safety Code Officers, HO Engineering, Operations and Maintenance representatives as required.

  • Enforce the construction quality assurance program to ensure work performed by Contractors meet project requirements.

  • Monitor and support construction activities to ensure Quality Assurance or Quality Control requirements are met and provide reporting. 

  • Identify and resolve any construction quality non-compliance.

  • Work closely with the Site Construction Managers in the identification of required and ongoing improvements and/or additions to MEG construction technical procedures and quality plans and assist in authoring, implementation, and administration of construction governance.

  • Help develop long term construction and contractor strategies & planning.

  • Lead or support contractor onboarding and evaluations.

  • Help develop site equipment management strategies.

  • Monitor, identify, investigate, and correct construction cost, progress, and productivity issues.

  • Help develop productivity work process improvements.

  • Report any challenges or issues to the Site Construction Managers in a timely manner.

  • This role is based at our Calgary head office but does require regular travel to our Christina Lake operating site near Conklin, Alberta via charter flights from Calgary.

  • What you will bring to MEG:

  • 10+ years’ experience coordinating the field construction of projects in the oil and gas industry and/or 5+ years working in an EPCM environment.

  • Engineering degree from an accredited Canadian university.

  • registered member in good standing with APEGA

  • Specialized education and coursework completed in construction management is an asset.

  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory and jurisdictional requirements

  • Knowledge of pressure vessels, pressure piping and pipeline codes such as ASME Division 1, Section 1, ASME Division 1 Section VIII, CSA B51, ANSI , ANSI , CSA 662 etc.

  • Knowledge of non-destructive testing techniques and acceptance criteria.

  • A passion and dedication to creating safe work environments with demonstrable safety leadership.

  • Strong interpersonal skills combined with effective written and oral communication skills across all levels of the organization.

  • Positive attitude and demonstrated ability to overcome obstacles to achieve solutions.

  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills, effective at achieving alignment among multi-disciplined work groups at all organizational levels.

  • Dedication to creating a collaborative and inclusive workplace that fosters and empowers individuals to perform and contribute at their best.

  • Thermal facility experience, SAGD, and field assignments are an advantage.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
