Perform tariff classification under the Canadian Customs Tariff using General Interpretative Rules and CBSA D-Memo guidance.
Determine applicability of Special Import Measures Act (SIMA), including anti-dumping and countervailing duties.
Prepare and submit CBSA ruling requests related to classification, origin, and valuation.
Assess eligibility for preferential tariff treatment under agreements such as CUSMA, CETA, and CPTPP.
Conduct origin determinations and valuation analyses under the Canadian Customs Act.
Analyze broker and import data to identify compliance risks and duty savings opportunities.
Support duty recovery programs including drawback and remission processes.
Assist in CBSA audits, verifications, and the Voluntary Disclosures Program (VDP).
Client Engagement
Prepare client-facing deliverables such as advisory memoranda, findings reports, and regulatory analyses.
Communicate Canadian customs requirements and recommendations clearly to clients.
Support client discussions and provide technical trade compliance guidance.
Process Improvement & Controls
Support the development and refinement of SOPs and Canadian compliance workflows.
Ensure consistent regulatory interpretation and application across engagements.
Maintain awareness of CBSA regulatory updates and customs policy changes.
Identify process inefficiencies or control gaps and partner with management to implement improvements.
Ensure consistent application of regulatory interpretations and internal methodologies across the team.
Administrative & Performance Responsibilities
Track time accurately in required time management systems and maintain expected utilization targets.
Support management with performance feedback, skills development input, and identification of training needs (without direct disciplinary authority).
Physical Requirements
Job may require extended sitting or standing, use of standard office equipment.
Job requires the ability to use vision, adjust focus and work on a standard computer screen.
Use of audio-visual equipment is required.
Job will require punctual attendance and regular presence on-site at the assigned work location.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Bachelors Degree Preferred
Minimum 5 years of experience in customs brokerage, trade compliance, or international trade consulting.
Strong hands-on experience with duty drawback and post-entry activities required.
Must be eligible to work in Canada for any company in an ongoing capacity without company sponsorship
Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position
