We are currently looking for a Strategic Buyer to join our busy and growing manufacturing company.  The successful candidate will be engaged in elevating the department and company to the next level.  The incumbent will be forward looking and thrive in a culture of continuous improvement.

We are looking for a highly motivated, focused, and outgoing person who wants to springboard their career with a thriving manufacturing company. You will be provided with the coaching and training needed throughout the onboarding and orientation process that will build from your base of skills acquired from your past experiences.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Reporting directly to the Director of Supply Chain, the Strategic Buyer will propose the sourcing strategy to Romet management to mitigate business risk and maximize the benefit with leverage on both the international and domestic supplier base. The Strategic Buyer will be responsible for the supply chain raw material annual cost savings plan and execution. Managing super collaborative/contract manufacturing suppliers with strategic partnership development and will lead as supply chain NPI process champion to coordinate with the internal cross-functional team.


Key Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


Procurement & Strategic Sourcing (Priority order)



  • Develop and manage strategic supply chain partnerships for box building, ensuring alignment with production requirements, quality standards, and long-term business objectives

  • Initiate buying strategy discussions and implement approved sourcing strategies by qualifying suppliers to efficiently meet business targets

  • Negotiate pricing solutions, order policies/terms, long-term agreements with suppliers/subcontractors

  • Proactively identify/qualify sources of supply to de-risk material availability, cost, and quality risks

  • Foster supplier consolidation and build stronger, long-lasting strategic relationships

  • Survey the marketplace to ensure competitiveness of existing vendors


New Product Introduction (NPI) & Cross-Functional Support




    • Actively represents the supply chain team in NPI reviews, coordinating both internally and externally

    • Support engineering in NPI launches, prototype builds, and stage-gate “go/no-go” decisions

    • Negotiate FAI plans with internal cross-functional teams (ME, PD, QA/QC) and external suppliers

    • Prepare costing and margin analyses for NPI’s to support pricing and margin decisions


    Supplier Relationship & Performance Management



    • Evaluate, develop, monitor, and manage suppliers on price, quality, delivery, and capacity performance

    • Create and maintain supplier scorecards; collaborate with commodity buyers to ensure positive performance trends, prepare and conduct quarterly performance review presentations with collaborative and super collaborative suppliers

    • Maintain supplier/sub-supplier relationships, strategic alliances to ensure uninterrupted material flow

    • Manage and expand Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs, including electronics, hardware, MRO, and box build components


    Forecasting, Planning & Inventory Management



    • Standardize/prepare monthly long-term commodities forecasts, work with buyers to deliver/explain forecasts to suppliers

    • Plan, review, and manage current and future MRP requirements based on production needs

    • Review/update demand signals for proper supply/demand elements are triggered in ERP/MRP system

    • Utilize ERP systems and coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth material flow

    • Work with production planning to align forecasts with production and provide production floor support

    • Analyze inventory status monthly and implement actions to improve turns and critical item availability

    • Use forecasting and negotiation skills to maintain supply of critical inventory items and implement supplier stocking programs where applicable


    Cost Optimization & Continuous Improvement



    • Perform frequent pricing reviews with commodity buyers to facilitate cost reduction initiatives

    • Continuously manage the Supply Chain Projects Matrix on the network drive

    • Prepare and analyze reports as required

    • Perform all other duties as assigned


    Skills and Qualifications:



    • Able to read the Engineering Drawings (e.g. GD&T) and validation plan (e.g. FAI Plan)

    • Basic understanding of technical specification and manufacturing processes

    • Consistently works on complex assignments requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve issues, Possess excellent organizational and analytical skills

    • Ability to work under pressure and meet frequent deadlines

    • A self-starter with the ability to set and handle multiple priorities

    • Excellent communications skills both written and oral, including a strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with a focus on finding positive outcomes

    • Adaptable and flexible in a changing environment

    • Must be computer literate – Microsoft Office Suite


    Educational/Experience Requirements:



    • Electronic or Mechanical Engineering Certificate/Diploma is required

    • College Certificate/Diploma in Supply Chain procedures or related work experience

    • 10+ years Buyer experience in a manufacturing environment (Electronics/Casting/Extrusion/Machining experience preferred)

    • Minimum 8 years’ experience working with MRP/ERP system (Dynamics 365 Business Central considered an asset)



    • Lean manufacturing training and experience are considered assets
