Position: Student Collectives Representative
Location: Conestoga College – Doon Campuses (May be eligible to work at other locations as needed) 
Reports to: Student Experience Coordinator  
Time Requirement: Up to 10 hours bi-weekly (some evenings and weekends may be required) 


Start Date: August 18, 2026
Hourly Wage: $21.15

POSITION OVERVIEW 


To further the mandate of enhancing student-led programming on Conestoga campuses, CSI is introducing the Student Collectives program. This program aims to provide support and resources to underrepresented and marginalized student communities on our campuses, through which these collectives are empowered to create their own programming, events, and resources. 


 


The Student Collectives Representative will self-identify with the collective’s mandate and wish to support and uplift the community. They will oversee the success of individual collectives through the creation and operation of programs that benefit the represented collective. In doing so, the Student Collectives Representative will engage with students on various campuses and must cultivate and maintain a diverse and inclusive environment in which the variety of participants’ backgrounds, experiences, places of origin, racial/ethnic identities, gender, ages, and more are heard, respected, and valued by everyone. 


 


This position reports directly to the Student Experience Coordinator to ensure ongoing communication regarding collectives programming and development. In all activities, the Student Collectives Representative must recognize that creating meaningful and accessible experiences for diverse student communities is the top priority.  


 


You will learn to: 



  • Lead the development of each individual collective. 



  • Oversee the programming structure by creating an annual calendar with key dates and annual events. 



  • Exercise good governance and work on co-creating governing policies that provide the collective with guiding principles in line with CSI policies. 



  • Ensure the collectives' mandate is aligned with the budget, deliverables, and quality programming. 



  • Communicate plans with the collectives members and CSI to ensure transparency and accountability. 



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 



  • Act as Lead to the assigned collectives. 



  • Responsible for coordinating programming and initiatives of the Collective.  



  • Oversee the collective’s success and community safety.  



  • Ability to commit 20 hours each month for the work of the collective.  



  • Responsible for overseeing event logistics, that prioritizes accessibility.  



  • Communications and outreach with members and general student body.  



  • Complete end-of-term reporting (programming summary, feedback collection).  



  • Annual Student Experience reporting - Student Collectives should provide updates to the student experience team to add to our annual report that is presented to all students.  



  • Accessibility and representation survey – CSI will create simple survey questions that collectives will administer within their groups to answer questions about the ease of accessibility within the collective (flexibility of attending events, meetings, etc.) and if they feel the collective still represents the best interest of the community it's associated with.  



  • Community feedback surveys – Collectives will conduct their own surveys to gather feedback from participants on an ongoing basis.  



  • Provide semesterly written report to the Student Experience team.  



  • Provide an annual written report to the CSI Board of Directors. 



Other General Duties 



  •  Work in accordance with corporate by-laws, policies, and procedures, particularly with the CSI Mission Statement.

  • Practice professionalism and impartiality when handling sensitive personal information.

  • Maintain confidentiality for business practices.

  • Strict adherence to Health & Safety laws, policies, and procedures.

  • Work in an organized manner where detail, accuracy, and confidentiality are critical.

  • Attend meetings, training, and committees when required.

  • Other duties as assigned.



QUALIFICATIONS 



  • Preference will be given to those who have a deep understanding of the lived experiences of equity-seeking groups (such as Indigenous, BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and persons with disabilities). 



  • Previous experience in student leadership, peer support, or community engagement is an asset. 



  • Experience with survey tools (e.g., Microsoft Forms, Google Forms, or other survey platforms) is an asset. 



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse student populations. 



  • Strong organizational and time-management skills. 



  • Attention to detail. 



  • Ability to collect, analyze, and summarize qualitative and quantitative data. 



  • Comfortable facilitating group discussions, focus groups, or interviews in a way that informs and encourages positive experiences and interactions. 



  • Cultural competence: Respect and understanding for persons who come from a variety of socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. 


  


STUDENT ELIGIBILITY 


All students in this position must:  



  • Be in a full-time degree, diploma, or certificate program at Conestoga College   

  • Maintain a full-time course load. Part-time studies may be allowed for students who are registered with Accessibility Services and require a reduced load  

  • For Spring term positions (May to August), students must be returning to full-time studies in the Fall term to be eligible.  

  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number  



International students must:  



  • Hold a valid Canadian study permit that allows on-campus employment  

  • Adhere to all requirements stated on their study permit  

  • Adhere to all Canadian student visa requirements  



WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical Demands


This position will spend long periods sitting and using office equipment and computers, which can cause muscle strain. Long hours will also be spent standing, walking, and lifting/carrying objects of up to 50 lbs. 



Environmental conditions 


This position performs work primarily in a busy, open area office and is faced with frequent interruptions and meetings with others regularly. Occasional travel between campuses may be required. Some work may be required after office hours and on weekends. Work may be occasionally performed outdoors as weather permits.  

Sensory Demands


This position will require long periods of intense concentration in the face of frequent distractions. The incumbent must also spend long hours on the computer entering information, which requires visual focus, attention to detail, and high levels of accuracy. This position will at times be subject to loud noises and bright lights.  

Mental Demands


This position will be expected to manage and meet multiple competing deadlines. The incumbent must also be able to deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
