Job Description - Substation Procurement Specialist

Valard, is Canada’s premier utility contractor, as well as head of the Valard Group of Companies AND part of the Quanta Group, the largest electrical power contractor in North America. Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications and renewable energy.

The Substation Procurement Specialist is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring goods and services necessary for the Valard’s operations. This role involves ensuring that procurement activities are conducted in an efficient, cost-effective, and timely manner, while maintaining compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and project specific requirements.

KEY (CORE) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.  Sourcing and Supplier Management:

  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain strong direct relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
  • Have a high-level understanding of components required in substation construction scopes and high voltage equipment. 

2.  Negotiation and Contract Management:

  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure the best possible deals.
  • Prepare and review contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Manage contract renewals and amendments as necessary.

3. Procurement Process Management:

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies to optimize purchasing activities.
  • Track multiple procurement scopes across multiple projects.
  • Manage the procurement cycle, including requisition, order placement, regular interval tracking, delivery, and payment processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of purchase orders and invoices. 

4. Cost Control and Budget Management:

  • Monitor and analyze procurement costs to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts related to procurement activities.
  • Report on key metrics and performance indicators to management. 

5. Compliance and Risk Management:

  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks in the supply chain.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date procurement records and documentation. 

6. Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including finance, operations, and project teams, to understand their needs and requirements.
  • Provide procurement support and guidance to various departments.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration between suppliers and internal teams.

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • S.C.M.P designation or comparable experience
  • Minimum of three years of experience
  • Experience in the Electrical Construction Industry, EPC environment would be considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability in Vendor Management Practices
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office applications/ERP Software
