NATURE & SCOPE

The Regional Supervisor provides leadership, oversight, and operational support for YMCA Day Camp programs across multiple sites within an assigned region. The role ensures program quality, staff effectiveness, safety compliance, and positive experiences for participants, families, and staff, while acting as a key liaison between site-level leadership and camp administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Oversight and Quality Assurance

• Provide regional oversight to ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery across all assigned sites.


• Monitor program implementation, attendance, staff-to-camper ratios, schedules, and daily operations.


• Conduct regular site visits to assess program quality, staff performance, and site readiness.


• Support the development and delivery of engaging, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate programming.

Staff Supervision, Leadership, and Performance Management

• Provide direct supervision, coaching, and mentorship to Site Supervisors.


• Support site supervisors with staff performance management through regular check-ins, coaching documentation, and seasonal evaluations.


• Foster a positive, inclusive, and professional team culture aligned with YMCA values.


• Mediate conflicts, support problem-solving, and address performance concerns in collaboration with Camp Leadership.

Staffing, Recruitment, and Training Support

• Support recruitment, orientation, and training of seasonal staff and volunteers.


• Deliver and participate in regional and site-level training, orientations, and professional development opportunities.


• Support supervisors with seasonal planning, scheduling, and staff readiness during pre-camp preparation.

Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management

• Ensure compliance with YMCA policies, Ontario Camps Association standards, health and safety regulations, and child protection practices.


• Provide leadership during incidents, emergencies, and complex situations, including internal reviews as required.


• Review and submit incident reports, safety documentation, and required follow-up actions.


• Support supervisors and staff in managing behavioural challenges, accommodations, and crisis situations.

Family Engagement and Stakeholder Relations

• Act as an escalation point for parent/guardian concerns and support timely, professional issue resolution.


• Support clear, consistent communication with families, community partners, facility staff, and YMCA departments.


• Build and maintain positive working relationships with site partners and internal YMCA teams.

Administrative and Operational Oversight

• Ensure accurate completion and review of operational documentation, attendance records, payroll-related data, and required reports.


• Support financial accountability through adherence to purchasing procedures and monitoring of regional supplies and equipment.


• Coordinate regional logistics, including inventory management, equipment distribution, and seasonal site setup and closure.

Professional Standards and YMCA Representation

• Provide on-site or leadership coverage for Site Supervisors as required to maintain safe and effective operations.


• Remain flexible and responsive to operational needs during peak program periods.


• Model professionalism, confidentiality, appropriate boundaries, and YMCA values at all times.


• Represent the YMCA positively with staff, families, and community partners.


• Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational success.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current Standard First Aid/CPR(C) Certification


• Post secondary degree or diploma in Recreation and Leisure, Child and Youth Education or related field


• 2 years’ experience as a Supervisor in a camp environment


• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (Crisis Prevention Institute) Training is an asset


• Knowledge of Ontario Camps Association Standards is an asset


• Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) issued for the YMCA of Niagara if above the age of 18

Working Conditions:

• Work is in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions


• Day Camp Regional Supervisors typically work Monday through Friday, scheduled for shifts between the hours of 7:30am and 5:30pm


• Evening and weekend work will be required during training and for staff meetings


• Travel to YMCA of Niagara Locations, Access to reliable transportation daily


• This role requires participation in activities involving varying levels of physical activity. Accommodation will be provided in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)

DAY CAMP OVERVIEW

Camp operates Monday to Friday with shifts scheduled between 7:30am-5:30pm. Most camp staff are scheduled to work between 7.5 and 8.5 hours per day.
