Summer Early Learners Supports Assistant




Location: 12308 111 Avenue #200, Edmonton, Alberta            


Closing Date:  April 3, 2026, or Until Suitable Candidate Found.


Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary (May-August)


 


The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a full-time, temporary Summer Early Learners Supports Assistant.
This is a summer term position with an end date of August 28, 2026. Reporting to the Early Years Supervisor, the successful candidate will provide resource development and event support to the Early Years team. The successful candidates must have strong relationship building skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The Summer Early Learners Supports Assistants will be required to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department’s goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.


 


Key Responsibilities



  • Support event projects through various stages, ensuring standards of quality are met.

  • Assist in maintaining proper records of program supplies and equipment, such as inventory lists, program materials, etc.

  • Collect program data and support with preparing documents, forms, and spreadsheets, as needed.

  • Provide backend administrative support to the Family Supports Team and Program Coordinators.

  • Aid team members with packing, organizing, and shipping items to families, as needed.

  • Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.

  • Support other Otipemisiwak Métis Government Children and Family Services (CFS) initiatives and perform other duties as required or assigned.


 


 


Skills & Competencies 


We are looking for motivated, confident individual who is passionate about working with Métis children and families. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with colleagues is required. Other skills/competencies include:



  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including professional email etiquette.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.

  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.

  • Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.

  • Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.

  • Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations.

  • Proficient in Google Sheets, Adobe, Asana, Excel, and other Microsoft applications.

  • Political and cultural sensitivity.

  • Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture, people, and values is an asset.




Qualifications 



  • Post-secondary education in Early Learning, Early Childhood Education, Human or Social Services, or related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.

  • Experience in administrative support (including school or volunteer experience) is an asset.

  • Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.


 


Other Requirements



  • Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.

  • Ability to travel throughout Alberta, with notice.

  • Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license.

  • Acceptable attainment of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check, and an Intervention Record Check is required.
