Summer Games and Recreation Coordinator

The Summer Games and Recreation Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating Team Wek'oqma'q's participation in the Summer Games and facilitating recreational activities for all ages for community year round.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Develop, monitor, and facilitate sports preparation before the Summer Games.


• Assist in Summer Games preparation, including registration, shirts, jerseys, food during the games, water, pins, pep rally, tent, chairs, tables, etc.


• Create a list of appropriate equipment needed for the games.


• Determine the number of volunteers required and coordinate their involvement.


• Manage scheduling for transportation (bus), food, and sports activities.


• Developing, monitoring, and facilitating sports preparation, as well as assisting with various logistical aspects to ensure a successful event.


• Plan and facilitate recreational activities for all ages for community year round.


• Will post a calendar of events one week prior to the beginning of each month.


• Apply for grants /program funds as they come up.

• Experience in event coordination or sports management is an asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Physical Environment

An office environment with a work station that is comfortable, well lit, and temperature controlled. Space for use has drawers for organization and filing, and equipment for use is well-maintained. Some travel may be required.  

Physical Effort          

A lot of time is spent sitting in a comfortable office with frequent opportunities to move about. This position occasionally moves or lifts objects such as office supplies, equipment or boxes of files (up to 20 lbs). Travel to the other offices/stores requires driving for significant periods of time.

Sensory Attention 

Ability to listen and observe behaviour is a very important part of hiring staff, coaching and/or resolving complaints; strong analytical skills in order to assess applications/resumes for employment and training; ability to review a large volume of documents including emails and memos.

Mental Pressures

Ability to handle workload and prioritize work to avoid burnout. Incumbent may be required to work additional hours outside of business hours to complete time-sensitive tasks and meet important deadlines. Stress may be increased during times of employee communications such as when constructive feedback may need to be provided, conflict and employee-related issues arise, or employees may need progressive discipline or dismissal.

Position Hours and Travel Requirements

The Summer Games and Recreation Coordinator is required to work varied hours; Monday to Friday and some weekends, with the expectation that overtime and work outside of their regular schedule may be necessary at times in order to complete role responsibilities.
