Position Status: Two (2) Full Time (40 hrs per week), Summer Students (April-August)
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for two (2) temporary, full-time Summer Hospitality Aide’s. These are summer term positions with an end date of August 30, 2025. Reporting to the Hospitality Supervisor, the Summer Hospitality Aide’s will support with guest services, kitchen duties, and janitorial duties at the Nekinan property in Smoky Lake. The successful candidates will have excellent communication skills and will be required to both take direction and work intuitively to support the completion of the department’s goals and objectives in a professionally and culturally appropriate manner.
Key Responsibilities
Perform customer service duties such as assisting guests with checking-in, checking-out, answering queries, etc.
Assist with meal and food preparation.
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment, including taking out garbage, sweeping, washing and drying dishes and utensils, and unpacking and storing food and kitchen supplies.
Ensure all food safety regulations are followed.
Light housekeeping of rooms and common areas.
Assist with office and accommodations tasks, including moving shipments, organizing materials and supplies, and assisting with the operations of Nekinan.
Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
Other duties as required or assigned.
Skills & Competencies
We are looking for motivated, confident individuals who are passionate about Indigenous issues, customer service, and hospitality. Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with colleagues is required. Other skills/competencies include:
Ability to use common kitchen appliances and tools effectively and safely.
Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and willingness to learn new skills.
Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to multitask and switch between multiple priorities.
Political and cultural sensitivity.
Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people.
An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government and Métis culture/rights is an asset.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Hospitality or a related field is required. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
1-2 years of experience in hospitality or customer service is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
Food Handler Certificate is an asset. Training may be required as directed by department leadership.
Other Requirements
Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.
Ability to work evenings and weekends, with notice.
Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
Reliable transportation is required.
