The Agency 


The Calgary John Howard Society (CJHS) is a community-based charitable organization dedicated to reducing the incidence of crime and increasing community safety through preventative and restorative justice practices. To accomplish these ends, we provide direct services to individuals at risk, advocacy for effective responses to crime with the individuals involved and education for youth and adults in the community. The Program


The Community Outreach and Advocacy Services Team (COAST) supports multi-barriered youth aged 12 to 26 who are exhibiting criminal behaviours or are criminally involved. The COAST team is comprised of Youth Advocacy and Support programs for various youth populations. These programs provide advocacy, support, and mentorship for youth 12 to 26 years old who are struggling with a variety of social and emotional issues including strained family relationships, negative peer relationships, school challenges and unhealthy risk taking. Youth are provided with the necessary support to develop pro-social reactions to conflict, to address day-to-day challenges, and to make appropriate choices which allow for positive contributions to family, school, and community.


The Position 


The COAST Team supports multi-barriered youth aged 12 to 26 who are exhibiting criminal behaviours or are criminally involved. The Activities Coordinator will function within the COAST Team by supporting the Youth Advocacy and Support Programs along with the Youth Transitional Housing Programs (Raido and Windsor Park) with daily functions, planning, and organizing a variety of activities for youth (ex. recreation, living skills, employability). The Activities Coordinator will liaise with and organize Elder directed groups, connect youth with cultural activities in the community, implement recreational outings and activities, and connect youth with appropriate community resources.


Qualifications and Expertise


·         You are between the ages of 18-30


·         This is a Canada Summer Jobs position, therefore, requires you to be a current post-secondary student


·         Experience working with target population considered an asset


·         Knowledge of Indigenous culture, crafts and teachings considered an asset


·         Experience in activity planning, promotion, evaluation, and facilitating workshops


·         Crisis prevention/intervention skills


·         Strong organizational, communication and relationship skills


·         Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation


·         Current Child Welfare Intervention Screen and CPIC
