Job Description - Supervisor, Facilities

Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) is a unique Indigenous Institute, recognized by community, government, and institutions of higher learning, as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Knowledge. SNP offers postsecondary, secondary, trades education and training. SNP has formal partnerships with nine publicly funded Ontario Universities and Colleges and collaborates with six Ontario-based Indigenous owned and controlled post-secondary Institutes.

JOB PURPOSE 


 


Reporting to the Project Manager, Capital & Maintenance the Supervisor, Facilities is responsible to oversee and coordinates day-to-day facilities, preventive maintenance and repair work in a safe and efficient manner following recognized industry standards, regulations, and codes, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.  The Facilities Supervisor maintains good order and appropriate service levels by overseeing employees and contractors completing cleaning, repairs and maintenance of buildings, grounds, and associated tools and equipment at Six Nations Polytechnic campuses, contributing towards providing a safe, accessible, clean, and comfortable campus environment. 



The Supervisor, Facilities is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodinǫshǫ:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga’nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind). 



KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES 


 


Building Maintenance and Sanitation 50%



  • Performing maintenance and repair work, including groundskeeping and landscaping activities; 



  • Cleaning and sanitizing campus locations; 



  • Moving furniture, supplies and miscellaneous equipment 



  • Handling of chemicals, materials, powered and non-powered equipment and tools 



  • Daily removal of refuse and recycling, disposing of bio-hazardous waste in a compliant manner; 



  • Other related duties, as required. 


 


General Administration 20%



  • Providing assistance in writing scopes of work, technical specifications and guidelines, and recommending sequencing of work; 



  • Maintaining a tracking system for maintenance and administrative tasks to ensure they are scheduled and completed; 



  • Participating in staff, Board, ad hoc, ordinary committees and working groups, staff training and information sessions, as required;  



  • Tracking and monitoring facilities service requests to ensure requests are completed within established timelines and quality standards; 



  • Coordinating and working with supervisor for the monitoring of material/equipment and supplies inventory and ordering of as required; 



  • Other related duties, as required. 


 


Leadership 20%



  • Managing the performance and work of Facilities team members including assisting with work when required, and completing scheduled performance evaluations; 



  • Providing facility supervisory and support coverage at both campuses, as required; 



  • Training, developing and providing ongoing support to Facilities team members, ensuring that regular one-on-one meetings are carried out and that personal development plans are in place;  



  • Monitoring cleaning and janitorial work by contractors and Facilities team members to ensure quality assurance and assisting with work when required; 



  • Other related duties, as required. 


 


Building Safety and Security 10%



  • Ensures the safe and secure opening and closing of the buildings, including the security alarm systems; 



  • Verify that all campus areas, inside and outside, meet safety and accessibility requirements and that all equipment is functioning efficiently; 



  • Other related duties, as required. 


 


 


EDUCATIONAL KNOWLEDGE 


 


Completion of a formal post-secondary college of one to two academic years in Facilities or Operations Management Diploma.


 


EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE / CULTURE AND LANGUAGE EXPERTISE 


 


Over 3 years and including 5 years of experience in supervision of facilities staff and a strong mechanical aptitude.


 


 


Criminal Record Check


The successful candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Background Check – Vulnerable Sector Screening that is satisfactory to Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) prior to the first day of work at Six Nations Polytechnic, and an Offence Declaration that is satisfactory to SNP by their first day of employment at Six Nations Polytechnic.

POSITION TYPE: New Position 


JOB TYPE: Full-time Permanent


SCHEDULE: 37.5hrs Monday-Friday


WORK MODEL: On-Site


PAY BAND: 6; Core range $64, 874.39–$76,010.69. The target hiring salary for this position is minimum (Step 1) up to 45% of the pay band. Considerations for new hire step placements include experiential knowledge and/or language and cultural expertise.
