Job Description - Supervisor (Halifax Regional Police)

If you're interested in continuing your career with the winner of the 2024 Halifax Chamber of Commerce “Not-For-Profit Business of the Year” then we have an exciting opportunity for you! Commissionaires Nova Scotia (CNS) is looking for someone to join our supervisory team as a Front Counter Supervisor with our Halifax Regional Police (HRP) contract. 


CNS Supervisors play a key role in the operational success of our contracts; responsible for leading our people, delivering high level customer experience and managing all aspects of our commitment to our client. This includes the overall supervision of personnel, the administrative management of the site, discipline, dress and deportment, monitoring morale, client communications and contract delivery. The successful candidates will form a supervisory team that will deliver operational support to our client and will be a key part of the success of this longstanding and valued contract. 


THE ROLE
Position:  Supervisor


Competition Number: CNS 2025-8-25
Reports to: Site Supervisor 


Responsible For: Supervision, coaching, and administration of shift personnel


Working Hours: Monday - Friday 0600 - 1630


Closing Date: September 8 2025


Please note this role is in a Unionised environment, although the Supervisor role will not be Unionised. 


 


Duties and Responsibilities:


While duties vary by assignment, the responsibilities of this role may include, but are not limited to



  • Supervision of Commissionaires staff 

  • Complete and submit time sheets and manage Commissionaires hours of work. 

  • Track staffing requirements and working with Operations on workforce management.

  • Coordinate security checks and polygraph dates with HRP Human Resources.

  • Manage and draft monthly statistic reports.

  • Maintain a staff roster including leave, sick leave, absentees and lateness.

  • Review operations such as the non-emergency phone line for quality

  • Make recommendations, based on information and observations as to how to improve customer service.

  • Manage data on all HRP systems 

  • Respond and mediate complaints from the public, HRP and Council. 

  • Manage all discipline issues with CNS staff.

  • Address all union issues including grievance procedures. 

  • Participate as management in JOSH meetings.

  • Perform other related duties as requested by HRP Management and CNS Site Manager. 


 


 Candidates must: 



  • Be aged 19 or older.

  • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.

  • Be eligible to apply for, and pass.

    • Government of Canada Enhanced Reliability

    • Emergency First Aid & CPR

    • Achieve a Halifax Regional Municipality clearance for Halifax Regional Police 



  • Be able to communicate effectively in English.


 


Qualifications and Skills


 


The incumbent must demonstrate experience with the following key qualifications, skills, and attributes:



  • Be qualified in, or have the ability to pass, CNS advanced leadership/management training courses (CSC 1 and 2)

  • Comfortable in use of computers and computer-based applications

  • Possess excellent customer service skills.

  • Possess excellent communication skills (verbal and written).

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and exercise sound judgement and decision making during emergency or high stress situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to changing situations.

  • Highly professional and discreet

  • Excellent coaching, negotiating, and mentoring abilities.

  • Experience in On-Watch application considered an asset.
