JOB SUMMARY
The Supervisor, Standards leads the development of technical policies, standards, specifications, procedures, and training material to support Hydro Ottawa in managing the distribution system. The supervisor leads a team of engineering and technical staff to attain annual targets aligned with Hydro Ottawa’s strategic direction. This position provides technical guidance and direction on the design and construction of the distribution system, while ensuring compliance with industry codes, standards and Ontario regulation 22/04.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Accountable for the development, implementation, and management of technical policies, standards, equipment specifications, standard work methods and procedures for the distribution system.
Responsible for the review, management and updating of Hydro Ottawa’s technical approval processes and procedures, such as the Design Approval Process, Equipment Approval Process and Construction Verification Program.
Provide technical support for the planning, design and construction of the distribution system, so as to ensure it is constructed in a safe, cost effective manner that is compliant with industry codes, standards and Ontario Regulation 22/04.
Provide technical response in support of annual external 22/04 audits.
Oversee technical studies and prepare analysis/status reports and recommendations relating to the complete distribution system.
Analyze technical processes and equipment failures, and prepare reports recommending corrective actions on failure/incident.
Develop and deliver training material related to this position’s responsibilities.
Accountable for the implementation and delivery of performance management and development programs for direct reports.
Play an active role in the development of Engineers in Training.
Participate on industry committees as a representative of Hydro Ottawa.
Perform business case and financial analysis.
Lead special projects, as required.
Participate in Business Continuity Plan and On Call programs.
Deliver presentations to decision makers and stakeholders.
Perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Professional Engineer licensed in the province of Ontario
Minimum 5 years’ experience in an electrical utility engineering environment
Previous people leadership experience
Knowledge of the National Standards, Codes and Regulations that apply to the distribution system is essential
Strong computer skills; proficient in MS Office Suite of products.
Experience with CAD and technical design software considered an asset
Practical experience in electrical utility operations and/or trades considered an asset.
English language skills essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (French/English) considered an asset
This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

This is a management group opportunity. The annual salary range for this position identified below depends on experience, education, and professional designation. The successful candidate will be offered a salary within this range based on their qualifications.
