The opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists in our Utilities department within the Metals division for a Utilities Supervisor located in Fort Saskatchewan. The purpose of this position is to provide frontline leadership to operating crews on a continuous rotating shift, coordinate daily plant operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective production and delivery of products and utilities in support of business objectives.

In this role, you will be accountable for:
  • Leading and coordinating daytoday Utilities operations on a continuous rotating shift to meet safety, production, and business objectives.
  • Delivering and adjusting production plans while monitoring process performance and addressing emerging operational issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements, ABSA regulations, and applicable regulatory and company standards.
  • Directing operations during abnormal or emergency conditions to ensure safe and effective incident response.
  • Communicating and reinforcing operating standards, performance expectations, and procedural requirements across shifts.
  • Coaching and developing operating crews by supporting training plans, verifying competency, and ensuring qualified coverage.
  • Driving continuous improvement through operational excellence initiatives, best practices, and procedure review and maintenance.
  • Maintaining oversight of reporting, recordkeeping, and documentation requirements to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Supporting labour relations by ensuring compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and participating in investigations as required.
  • Contributing to asset reliability by supporting the Asset Management and process safety programs within the operating area.
Skills and attributes for success:
  • A valid 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate is required.
  • Significant experience in process plant operations.
  • Training and experience in emergency and crisis response.
  • Strong work planning, coordination, and execution skills.
  • Experience managing within a unionized workforce.
  • Knowledge of change management principles and Lean practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
