Support Worker - ASL Interpreter
The BGC of Central Vancouver Island provides experiential learning environments that inspire children, youth and families of diverse abilities to acquire & develop the critical cognitive, emotional, and social skills needed to become resilient and contributing members of society. The BGCCVI is a registered Non-Profit organization and charitable organization serving over 1000 children, youth and families in Comox, Courtenay, Lantzville, Nanaimo and Ladysmith through enriching programs in 14 club locations.
This position has been created for individuals whose primary purpose will be to support an early learning program (Out of School Care) which includes children who have additional support needs. This position will support specific children as well as the program to be inclusive. It requires a comprehensive knowledge of Early Child Development, age-appropriate communication strategies, and behavior management theory. The Support Worker assists the child(ren) to integrate into the program activities as well as to develop life skills, social skills, and/or access to community resources. Ability to communicate in ASL is an asset for the successful candidate.
The Supported Child Development Assistant/ ASL Interpreter will facilitate communication between Deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing children and staff within childcare and preschool settings while providing support and direct care to children, encouraging their intellectual, physical and emotional growth.
Position Details:
Salary: $18.95 - $22.00/hour, dependent on qualifications and experience
Hours: Term position, up to 25 hours per week
Location: Parksville Out of School Care (centre operates from 730am-530pm, Monday to Friday).
