Job Description - Survey Manager

Job Description

Reporting to the Project Manager and General Superintendent, the Survey Manager utilizes their extensive knowledge to contribute to the continued success and growth of the organization. The Survey Manager will be assigned to projects in the Greater Toronto Area, and be responsible for managing project-specific land and underground surveying. 

The responsibilities of the Survey Manager include:
  • Managing the activities of the survey department, including assigning surveyors and tasks based on project needs;
  • Ensuring ground, surface, and office surveys are completed per project requirements;
  • Monitoring high level engineering grade construction activities;
  • Use of Total station and other equipment and instruments, as required;
  • Downloading survey data, completing calculations, problem solving, as well as the maintenance of high accuracy of project information;
  • Providing expertise and guidance to the department, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide technical expertise and ensure successful completion of projects;
  • Ability to conduct traverse, network, monitoring, topographical, and as built surveys, as well as construction surveys;
  • Providing progress reports and field data to appropriate parties involved in the project;
  • Maintaining detailed and accurate records, preparing reports, as well as correspondence related to project work.


Requirements

  • Completion of post-secondary studies in Surveying or Engineering, or other applicable training;
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in the surveying field, with a minimum of 5 years of heavy civil construction experience;
  • Strong knowledge of complex survey tools and equipment;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills;
  • Good knowledge of Job Site Health and Safety rules and regulations;
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite, MS Project and AutoCAD;
  • Bilingual (an asset), but proficiency in English language with excellent communication skills (written and verbal) is required.
