Role Summary
The Surveyor plays a key support role in collecting field data, setting control points, and providing layout for construction teams to build accurately and efficiently. Reporting to the Survey Manager, you will help ensure each project meets design specifications and supports safe, high-quality underground utility and land development work.
In this role you will be responsible forthe following:
Drawing Interpretation – Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure layout accuracy and support field adjustments
Layout and Survey Support – Complete layout for construction activities including deep underground utilities, grading, and infrastructure, ensuring alignment with design specifications
Software and Data Processing – Use Trimble Access to manage layout tasks, collect field data, and ensure proper integration with Trimble survey equipment. Maintain workflow accuracy using approved survey files and support layout consistency across crews.
Data Collection and Notes– Work Independently to collect field survey data and prepare clear, accurate, and concise notes for daily records and reporting
Equipment Operation and Maintenance – Operate GPS, robotic total stations, builders levels, and digital levels; maintain and calibrate equipment for proper performance
Field Team Collaboration – Work closely with Foremen, Superintendents, and crews to provide timely layout and contribute to smooth, efficient site operations
Safety and Compliance – Follow GS Construction safety procedures and comply with all OH&S and project-specific safety requirements
Qualifications
Must Have:
5–7 years of survey experience in civil or industrial construction
Proficient in Trimble survey equipment and Trimble Access software
Skilled in GPS, Robotic Total Stations, Builders levels, and digital levels
Experience setting up and running base stations
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced field environment
Self-driven, reliable, punctualand motivated team contributor
Assets:
Experience with deep underground utility layoutand infrastructure.
Familiarity with survey and processing software such as Civil3D, Global Mapper, Trimble Business Center, DJI Terra, or DJI Modify
Advanced Drone Pilot Certificate (Transport Canada)
Experience with 3D scanning and drone data processing
Knowledge of Topcon machine control systems or file creation
Experience setting up dimensional control networks
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

This is a physically active, outdoor role. You'll be working in all kinds of weather.
You’ll need to be comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and handling physically demanding tasks throughout the day.
Work takes place on active construction sites with heavy equipment, uneven terrain, and live underground utilities.
