Job Description - Sustainability Coordinator

Our Ontario based client is one of the premier Canadian-owned Agribusinesses, with a diverse portfolio spanning farm services, animal nutrition, and grain marketing divisions. With growth comes a pivotal need to prioritize farm sustainability in the ever-evolving agricultural landscape. The Sustainability Coordinator will spearhead the development, implementation, and oversight of sustainability initiatives across the organization. Collaborating closely with various departments, the incumbent will champion environmentally friendly practices, curtail the organization's ecological footprint, and cultivate a pervasive ethos of sustainability. The position is stationed at the head office location, with the option for hybrid work arrangements.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will:

  • Develop and execute robust sustainability plans in alignment with the company's overarching objectives, integrating eco-friendly practices across all operations.
  • Conduct comprehensive evaluations to pinpoint areas directly influencing the organization's ecological footprint, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead the formulation and continual refinement of sustainability policies, ensuring they adhere to pertinent regulations and industry benchmarks.
  • Effectively communicate sustainability policies to employees and stakeholders, delivering clear guidance on best practices to foster a culture of environmental stewardship.
  • Generate regular, detailed reports on the organization's sustainability performance, catering to both internal stakeholders and external audiences to showcase progress and commitments.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers to uphold sustainability standards throughout the supply chain, fostering transparency and accountability in sourcing practices.
  • Keep abreast of the latest developments, trends, and innovations in sustainability practices through ongoing research, ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of environmental responsibility.
  • Organize and participate in internal sustainability audits, facilitating thorough assessments of operational practices to drive continuous improvement and adherence to sustainability objectives.
  • Evaluate the economic viability of sustainable strategies through rigorous cost-benefit analyses, identifying opportunities for efficiency gains and resource optimization.
  • Assess and promote sustainable sourcing practices, advocating for the adoption of environmentally friendly alternatives and suppliers committed to ethical and sustainable production methods.
  • Demonstrate a steadfast commitment to health, safety, and environmental protocols, adhering to all relevant policies and procedures to ensure a safe and sustainable work environment.

Your background includes:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Prior experience in a comparable role is advantageous, demonstrating a nuanced understanding of sustainability initiatives and their practical application in organizational settings.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, clear and persuasive articulation of sustainability concepts to diverse audiences, both internally and externally.
  • Maintain a friendly and courteous demeanor, fostering positive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners to effectively champion sustainability objectives.
  • Analytical mindset coupled with the ability to interpret and present data effectively, facilitating informed decision-making and strategic planning in support of sustainability goals.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to accuracy and precision, ensuring thoroughness in all aspects of sustainability planning, implementation, and reporting.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic environment to drive forward sustainability initiatives.
  • Provide superior customer service, responding promptly to inquiries and concerns while proactively engaging stakeholders to address their sustainability needs and preferences.
  • Advanced computer skills, particularly in MS Word and Excel, enabling proficient documentation, data analysis, and report generation to support sustainability initiatives and reporting requirements.

This sales role will include travel throughout Western Ontario to meet business demands, with occasions trips for meetings and industry events elsewhere in Canada.
