The NRC has an important role within the Government of Canada's Defence Industrial Strategy, accelerating research and innovation, and helping Canadian businesses develop leading-edge technologies for civilian and military use.
With expertise across fields such as transportation, quantum science, medical countermeasures and advanced manufacturing, the NRC is hiring to drive the development of national sovereign defence capabilities. The following role will support the NRC’s contributions to defence priorities.
We are looking for a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) specialist to support the development of airborne SAR sensing capabilities within the Aerospace Research Centre. The Specialist would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
Working as part of the Remote Sensing Imaging Group (RSIG), the successful candidate will contribute to the development of SAR-based sensing and analytics for Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) applications using drone-based platforms.
The role includes leading SAR remote sensing research activities, contributing expertise in SAR sensing systems and data processing, developing analytics and methodologies from SAR data, and producing high‑quality applied research outputs supporting defence and dual‑use applications. The candidate will also contribute to collaborations with partners across government, academia and industry.
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Ph.D. in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Geophysics, Engineering Physics, or a discipline closely related to quantitative airborne imaging remote sensing.

The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the JRO-AcRO level, which is an early to intermediate career level position with a salary range of $64,739 to $139,608.
NOTE: Please note that the full RO/RCO salary scale has five levels. Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. As such, the initial salary could be within another level of the RO/RCO salary scale (i.e. above or below the intended level for this position).
