Teaching Assistant

Overview

ICM offers a pathway to an undergraduate degree at the University of Manitoba. Key Responsibilities

• Meeting with course instructor(s) for onboarding and adherence to course delivery requirements


• Preparing and presenting tutorials in an English-only format


• Providing written feedback to students on the quality of material presented for grading or marking


• Administering and marking appropriate assessment instruments (ex: quizzes)


• May be required in assisting with the production of lab assessments under the supervision of the course instructor(s).

Essential Skills, Knowledge, & Experience

• Completion of academic studies and experience which have resulted in an expertise specifically appropriate to assisting in the instruction of the course(s) assigned


• An empathetic approach to the instructional needs and concerns of students, particularly those of international students


• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and meet agreed outcomes


• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in the English language

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Professional experience in a relevant discipline area


• Public speaking experience, whether through previous TA experience or other relevant experience


• Exposure to the academic needs and requirements of international students


• Experience in a multicultural environment
