About the Program


Foundry is an integrated youth services (IYS) initiative for youth ages 12-24 throughout British Columbia (BC). Foundry removes barriers and improves care pathways for youth by supporting co-location and integration of existing resources and services for five core streams: physical and sexual health, mental health, substance use, peer support and social services. Located in Surrey City Centre, Foundry Surrey Central serves a diverse and growing community and is committed to accessible, culturally safer, youth- and family-centred care.

Position Summary


The Peer Support Coordinator works as part of an interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the oversight and coordination of Foundry Surrey centre’s youth and family peer support programs. This position will collaborate closely with the Foundry Surrey manager to support implementation of programs, while coordinating and leading daily program activities and services. They will provide leadership and supervision to Youth and Family Peer Support Workers, promoting integration and collaboration with other Foundry Surrey core services, including primary care, mental health, substance use and social services. The Peer Support Supervisor ensures quality peer support services are provided that are informed by youth and family/caregiver needs and preferences. They collaborate with related health and social support services and other relevant community resources and participate actively in the Foundry provincial network and related working groups and events.


Responsibilities



  • Works closely with the Foundry Manager to coordinate site schedules, programming and provide oversight and supervision support to the Foundry team

  • Coordinates and leads the day-to-day youth and family peer support activities

  • Provides day-to-day supervision, coaching & mentorship for Youth and Family Peer Support Workers, including performance evaluation and training

  • Nurtures a positive team environment of continuous learning, effective communication and service excellence

  • In collaboration with the Foundry Surrey manager, selects, hires and onboards new staff

  • Participates in knowledge exchange and community of practices within Foundry network

  • Engages in ongoing evaluation and quality improvement initiatives related to youth and family peer support service delivery to ensure effective family and client centered practice

  • Ensures best practices, Foundry’s peer support model, training and standards are implemented and followed

  • Takes financial responsibility and accountability for the peer support program budget

  • In collaboration with the centre/manager, ensures appropriate client records are maintained by Peer Support Workers in accordance with established standards

  • Responds to and provides support to participants and team members during critical incidents and high-risk situations

  • Performs administrative functions, including writing reports, producing documents and presentations, leading or supporting policy development and ensuring adherence to policies

  • Oversees use of shared Electronic Medical Record or other documentation system and ensures accountability and privacy

  • Maintains an in-depth knowledge of available resources in the community

  • Participates in ongoing professional development

  • Establishes and maintains partnerships and positive working relationships with all Foundry stakeholders and relevant community agencies and resources

  • Represents Foundry in the community and delivers public presentations


Competencies & Knowledge



  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications (Microsoft Office, Teams, Myle EMR, Foundry Platform)

  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse youth & family populations with mental health and substance use related issues and to recognize and respond appropriately to the needs of youth and young adults

  • Lived experience and willingness to share their experiences to enhance support and programming

  • Genuine commitment to service integration and improving service experiences for youth and families

  • Strong communication, decision-making and organizational skills

  • Demonstrates understanding of trauma informed practices

  • Cultural agility, safety and humility skills and expertise:

    • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and willingness to partner with leaders of the diverse socio-economic communities of Foundry clients

    • Commitment to learning and unlearning about colonization and its impact on creating and sustaining health inequities

    • Commitment to a way of working that is grounded in anti-oppression



  • Knowledge of best practices related to community health, including but not limited to peer support, recovery, harm reduction, stepped care, and youth and family centered care

  • Staff mentoring, skill development and the ability to lead a positive working environment

  • Relationship and team building skills with a wide variety of stakeholders

  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems with minimal direction

  • Ability to work effectively with others in a multicultural, interdisciplinary setting, using cooperative approaches to problem solving

  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of an interprofessional team, including understanding the frameworks of other disciplines

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, changing environment
