Job Description - Technical Advisor - Senior Environmental Professional

H3M Environmental is a full-service consulting firm specialising in environmental, archaeological, and regulatory services across Western Canada. With ability spanning pre-construction planning, permitting, field assessments, and post-construction reclamation, H3M supports clients in oil and gas, municipal infrastructure, forestry, utilities, renewables, and industrial sectors. Our team of environmental professionals, biologists, archaeologists, and technicians delivers tailored, cost-effective solutions that balance regulatory compliance, land stewardship, and project development.

Position Overview:

H3M Environmental is seeking a Senior Environmental Technical Advisor to provide advanced technical leadership on complex assessment, remediation, and reclamation projects across Western Canada.

This role is designed for an experienced environmental professional with strong regulatory judgement, hands-on consulting experience, and the confidence to make and defend technical decisions. The successful candidate will guide projects to regulatory closure, support strategic client outcomes, and serve as a trusted technical advisor to both clients and internal teams.

As a Technical Advisor, you will work closely with Project Managers, regulators, and clients, providing technical leadership from early planning through to final closure. This role includes mentorship and quality oversight responsibilities but does not include formal people management or direct reports.

Technical Leadership & Project Execution

  • Provide senior‑level technical oversight for environmental assessments, remediation, and reclamation programs.

  • Review and interpret environmental data to support defensible closure strategies.

  • Ensure technical accuracy, regulatory alignment, and consistency across all deliverables.

Regulatory Strategy & Closure

  • Lead the development of regulator‑ready remediation, reclamation, and closure submissions.

  • Interface directly with regulators to clarify requirements, resolve issues, and support approvals.

  • Identify technical and regulatory risks early and implement practical mitigation strategies.

Client & Business Support

  • Act as a technical point of contact for key clients, supporting long‑term relationships.

  • Provide technical input into scopes, proposals, and work capture activities.

  • Support delivery teams with strategic guidance on complex or sensitive sites.

Mentorship & Quality Assurance

  • Mentor and support junior and intermediate staff in technical methods and regulatory interpretation.

  • Review technical work to ensure defensibility and consistency with best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Agrology, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in environmental consulting or industry, preferably within the upstream, midstream and/or downstream oil and gas, municipal, or industrial sectors.

  • Eligible for or currently holding a professional designation with a recognized regulatory body (e.g., P.Ag., P.Geo., P.Eng.).

What H3offers:

    • H3M offers a competitive total compensation package aligned with senior technical advisor level roles in Western Canada, commensurate with experience, technical expertise, and professional designation.

    • Benefits include comprehensive health and dental coverage, professional dues reimbursement, development incentives, flexible work arrangements, and additional wellness support.

    Why H3Environmental?

H3M is a growing Western Canadian consultancy where senior professionals are valued for their technical expertise, judgement, and leadership, not just billable hours.

    We offer:

    • Direct access to leadership and decision‑makers.

    • The ability to influence technical direction and project outcomes.

    • A ground floor opportunity to help build, shape, and scale a growing technical group for the future.

    • Exposure to diverse, technically challenging sites.

    • A collaborative culture that prioritizes quality, defensibility, and long‑term client success.

H3M values and promotes the diversity of the people it hires and serves. We are committed to creating a diverse environment and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, colour, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
