The Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) is a not-for-profit regulator dedicated to enhancing public safety across Ontario. TSSA's team of over 450 professionals delivers safety oversight across multiple regulated sectors through technical expertise, compliance, and collaboration with industry partners. At TSSA, safety is embedded in our culture and in all aspects of our work. Each role at TSSA has an impact on keeping Ontarians safe through engagement, evidence, enforcement, and education. We help build a safer community.

As part of the Technical Services team, your impact will enhance the team's effectiveness by supporting public safety and regulatory compliance by contributing to the consistent delivery of technical and administrative processes across TSSA's regulated programs. Through careful application of established procedures and coordination with program areas, you will help ensure regulatory requirements are applied accurately and services are delivered in a timely and consistent manner.

Your Key Contributions:

  • Respond to Technical Inquiries: Provide procedural, technical and CRM-based assistance related to BPV inspections, design registration and certification requirements.

  • Support Regulatory Consistency: Work with senior technical staff to ensure technical responses are accurate, consistent, and aligned with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Support Incident Review & Escalation: Review incident reports to identify issues requiring escalation. Assist with incident investigations by providing technical research and background investigation for investigators.

  • Assist with Technical Projects: Contribute to projects by conducting technical research, analyzing findings and data, and providing supporting documentation to assist with project delivery.

  • Audit Preparation & Support: Participate in preparations for external audits conducted by organizations such as the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Support preparation for TSSA audits of insurance companies and third-party inspection providers by organizing pre-audit documentation and requirements.

  • Support Quality Assurance Programs: Assist with maintaining the BPV ASME Quality Assurance Program by updating manuals to reflect current code requirements, tracking non-conformance issues, and supporting corrective action processes under supervision.

  • Support Training & Knowledge Sharing: Assist with the preparation of training and reference materials that explain technical, CRM, and regulatory requirements in clear, accessible language.

  • Maintain Records & Systems: Maintain and update certification databases, records, and examination materials to support program accuracy and traceability.

  • Support Standards Participation: Assist senior staff in preparing for participation in national and international standards committees (e.g., CSA, ASME) by conducting technical research and preparing summaries to support committee work.

Your Qualifications & Key Strengths:

  • Education:

    • Undergraduate studies in Science or Engineering are considered an asset.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in research, engineering, or teaching/training within a science-based discipline; experience in the BPV industry is considered an asset.

    • Experience managing documentation and supporting project timelines or coordinated work activities.

  • Knowledge & Skills:

    • Basic understanding of Ontario BPV Regulations, TSSA Safety Bulletins, and applicable codes and standards (e.g., ASME, CSA).

    • Ability to analyze technical information and data, identify patterns or gaps, and break complex processes into manageable components.

    • Working knowledge of CRM or similar computer-based systems.
