Job Description - Technician, Environmental

About the role:
 
Are you looking for an exciting role that makes the most of your scientific knowledge, technical skills, and environmental project management experience?
 
Reporting to the Environmental Coordinator, the Technician, Environmental is responsible for assessing environmental conditions, assessing compliance, and facilitating environmental education and compliance assurance to support the ongoing management and compliance of regional and local permits at Line Creek Operations. This role operates on a 4 X 4 rotation of straight day shifts.
 
To be successful, we are looking for someone who is organized and enjoys coordinating field tasks, and finding solutions in a fast-paced, team environment. This person has outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and can engage, build, and maintain internal and external relationships. Equally strong abilities in working independently and in a team, while remaining positive and motivated in outdoor, remote locations is vital.

In this role you will:

    • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
    • Manage multiple, broad based sampling and monitoring programs and collection of chemical, physical and biological tests (water, biota, sediment)
    • Apply quality control and quality assurance protocols to monitoring programs
    • Maintain, repair, and calibrate monitoring and sample collection equipment and instrumentation
    • Carry out environmental data entry, review, and management
    • Participate in field investigations and inspections
    • Coordinate contractor management to ensure work is being conducted safely and in accordance with the project scope
    • Supervise environmental projects, such as remediation, maintenance of pollution control infrastructure or programs, and field sampling initiatives
    • Develop and review Environmental Protection Plans, field level risk assessments, and other risk management tools
    • Analyze field and analytical data to draft technical reports and communications

Requirements:

    • Degree or Diploma in a related industry area, such as Engineering, Environmental Science, Environmental Technology or in an Earth Sciences field, such as Biology, Geography, Forestry, and Agriculture
    • Minimum one year experience in environmental compliance or monitoring in the resource industry
    • Knowledge of relevant environmental regulations, standards, and effective industry practices
    • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite®
    • Class 5 drivers’ license or equivalent
$82,000 - $101,000 a year
The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
