About the Role

We're seeking a skilled Telecommunications Designer with expertise in PLA. While these positions are based in Burnaby, we welcome applications from candidates in different locations as we offer flexible work arrangements. We have both permanent and temporary roles available at different experience levels.  

At Encepta, we specialize in outside plant and pole related telecommunications design, and this role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to various pole line analysis projects while developing your technical and leadership skills. As a PLA Designer, you'll be responsible for drafting and designing telecommunications pole line design and conduct structural analysis for fiber networks. You'll work independently on multiple design types while collaborating with team members and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

• Design & Analysis: Create outside plant telecommunications pole line designs for fiber networks (GPON/FTTP), perform structural analysis, pole loading calculations, and conduct site visits for measurements and documentation.


• Project Management: Handle PLA projects from start to finish, including planning, status monitoring, addressing issues, and ensuring successful outcomes. Coordinate effectively with team members and external stakeholders.


• Technical Leadership: Assist and train junior designers, participate in research and development projects, and perform quality assurance reviews when needed.


• Standards & Quality: Apply industry specifications and pole loading standards correctly while upholding training, operating, and health and safety procedures. Maintain high-quality design outputs across all projects.
  

What We're Looking For

• Education: University/College/Technical School Graduate or equivalent combination of experience and training. Professional designations like P.L., PTech, AScT, CET, CTech, or EIT are considered for advancement.


• Experience: 3-5 years of experience in drafting and designing work for civil, utility, or telecom-related projects.


• Technical Proficiency: Proficient in AutoCAD, SPIDAcalc, Quick Poles, PLS CADD, Spatial Net. and pole loading analysis software.  Strong understanding of OSP design methods including GPON, FTTx, Pole Lines, and Feeder Fibre.


• Cross-functional Skills: Expertise in pole loading calculations and structural analysis, with ability to perform work in related design areas.


• Software Skills: Proficient in Google Suite or equivalent Microsoft applications.


• Industry Knowledge: Intermediate understanding and application of industry specifications and standards.


• Quality Focus: Careful attention to detail with ability to QA personal work and others' pole loading analysis as needed.
