Temporary Position (Medical Leave Coverage)

Queen Margaret’s School is seeking a reliable and professional Overnight Security Officer to provide campus security coverage during overnight hours while the regular employee is on medical leave.

This role is independently responsible for maintaining the safety and security of our campus during hours when no other staff are on site. The successful candidate will demonstrate sound judgment, situational awareness, and the ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

This posting will remain open until a suitable candidate is appointed. Early application is encouraged.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overnight security coverage of the entire campus


• Conduct regular patrols of school buildings, grounds, parking areas, and the Shirley Burr Equestrian Centre


• Monitor surveillance and security systems


• Respond appropriately to alarms and potential security concerns


• Notify emergency services (police, fire, ambulance) as required


• Assess situations independently and determine appropriate response


• Document incidents and security observations clearly and accurately


• Assist injured persons and contact emergency medical personnel when necessary


• Maintain CPR and First Aid certification


• Support winter safety measures such as spreading ice melt when required


• Perform other security-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

• BST Certificate


• Valid BC Security Worker License


• Level 1 First Aid (or higher)


• Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment


• Proven ability to remain calm and decisive in high-stress situations


• Strong written and verbal communication skills


• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills


• Understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries


• Computer literacy and experience using Microsoft Office 365


• Fluency in English

Assets:

• Experience in law enforcement


• Previous overnight security experience


• Experience working in a school or campus environment


• Class 4 Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract

Working Conditions

• Overnight shifts only


• Up to 36 hours per week


• Weekend and holiday shifts may form part of the regular schedule


• Frequent standing and walking throughout shift


• Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions


• Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
