The Chimo Youth Retreat Centre is a non-profit organization that has served youth and families in the Edmonton region for over 50 years. Our great staff team provide a broad range of programs and services to youth between the ages of 13 and 22.


 


Our Solo with Supports (SWS) Program is currently seeking a


Full time (37.5 hours per week) Therapeutic Youth Worker.


The Solo with Supports program is a community-based program that assesses and teaches life and living skills to youth requiring additional support as they transition to adulthood. The youth in the program may live in a mentor support home, in the Chimo 5 Transition Home, or in their family home. Often youth in this program will transfer to the adult support system(s) such as Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH), Persons with Developmental Disabilities (PDD), and/or Adult Mental Health.


A Youth Worker is part of a dynamic team that supports clients in a relational way, to maintain a safe and positive environment, while supporting individuals with life skills, personal goals and social interactions. This position aims to provide support for youth aged 12-17 in the following areas:




  • Coaching use of public transport

  • Teaching budgeting skills

  • Supporting resume creation and dispersal

  • Supporting practice for job interviews

  • Learning driving skills (book learning only)

  • Support within group programming (e.g. Learning cooking skills, volunteering at the food bank, etc.)

  • Summer support with 3-day-per-week day program

  • Transportation to school and appointments (may include use of company fleet vehicle)

  • Vacation coverage for other staff

  • Occasionally filling shifts or providing double coverage for group homes

  • Supporting attendance at special events in the city (eg. Taste of Edmonton, Zinefest)


 


Schedule:


37.5 hours per week, scheduled flexibly within one of two suggested fixed schedules, with start and end times adjustable by up to two hours.

💼 Tuesday  11:00 AM – 8:00 PM
💼 Wednesday   11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
💼 Thursday    11:00 AM – 7:00 PM
💼 Friday   11:00 AM – 9:00 PM
💼 Saturday  1:00 PM – 5:30 PM


 


🗓️ Schedule 2: Sunday to Thursday


💼 Sunday       9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
💼 Monday     7:00 AM – 6:30 PM
💼 Tuesday    7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
💼 Wednesday 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM
💼 Thursday  7:00 AM – 1:00 PM



 


Education and Credential Requirements:



  • College Diploma/Degree in the Human Services field (Child & Youth Care, Social Work, etc.) (If your degree came from an international institute you will be asked for an ISQA Assessment (International Qualifications Assessment Service - International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS) | Alberta.ca) before employment can be offered)

  • Experience in a front-line role within Human Services is considered a significant asset.

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 2 current driving convictions

  • Access to a reliable vehicle (note that while Chimo does have a small fleet of vehicles for staff use, use of a personal vehicle is required more often than not).

  • Vehicle insurance with a minimum of $2 million PLPD and business use coverage.

  • Able to provide a claims history letter from your insurance broker confirming you currently have 3 years with no "at fault" claims



Physical requirements:



  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs

  • Ability to physically interact with youth during recreation outings,


Successful candidates will:



  • Demonstrate care and compassion for young

  • Possess a strong understanding of working with young people and adults who live with challenges in a variety of areas including developmental disabilities, mental health, attachment, addictions and barriers to accessing community resources.

  • Have knowledge of community resources to support youth

  • Have strong teamwork and communication

  • Be proficient with computer technology and writing reports/logs.


Salary, Benefits, Holidays:



  • The annual salary range for this position is $44,625 to $51,187 for 37.5 hours of work per week.

  • Agency health benefits begin after three months of employment. Dental benefits begin after one year.

  • Staff get 10 paid sick days and 15 vacation days per
