The successful candidate will create and implement innovative internal communications strategies and employee programs aimed at building collaborative relationships across all teams at MiWay. They will proactively seek opportunities to enhance a positive employee culture that delivers outstanding customer experiences. The candidate will play a pivotal role in cultivating a workplace culture at MiWay that prioritizes teamwork, values employee communications, integrates recognition and ensures employees feel informed with effective storytelling and programs. Reporting to the Manager of Customer Experience and Innovation,

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an internal communications strategy for MiWay that effectively meets the needs of all employees by utilizing various communication channels to deliver essential knowledge to all teams.
  • Build an understanding of the unique communication challenges in each section for MiWay and develop innovative and effective strategies to meet the communication needs of each team.
  • Investigate leading technologies that could enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of staff communications.
  • Develop high-quality communication tools and resources to enhance employee engagement, increase reach and improve access to department and industry information.
  • Create a tailored employee experience program for MiWay that encompasses onboarding, recognition, communications, engagement, and staff training & development. This program aims to boost employee morale, enhance knowledge, and deepen understanding of the transit business.
  • Create a plan and schedule for internal events and celebrations at MiWay that aims to create a balanced mix of professional development, team-building and fun activities to foster a positive and engaged workplace culture.
  • Represent MiWay on corporate teams such as equity, diversity & inclusion (EDI), Lean programs, City events, United Way, and any other corporate activities.
  • Responsible for creating, managing, and overseeing intranet communication, utilizing various mediums to inform and engage employees. This includes coordinating with content owner to ensure information is relevant and actively managed
  • Develop and maintain a branded toolkit of communication templates, and employee resources to support staff in each section of transit.
  • Assist the Director and senior leaders at MiWay in developing communications and key messages to stakeholders, employees, and customers. 
  • Develop and foster strong relationships and collaborate with internal business areas, providing strategic communications and messaging, to further the achievement of the business and citywide goals and objectives.
  • Revise and edit departmental documents to support leaders at MiWay ensuring consistent and effective communication delivery.
  • Ensure consistency, demonstrate effective teamwork, along with high standards of work quality and organizational performance, continuous learning and innovation. 
  • Attend City events, workshops, and other initiatives to promote further understanding of the business area.
  • Provide functional guidance to contract staff, students, freelance suppliers/vendors, volunteers and consultants.
  • Must be able to attend meetings, events, and activities outside of regular business hours and some weekends (e.g. meetings, events, emergencies or to meet deadlines).
     

Skills and Qualifications

  • A university degree in Communications, Business, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in internal communication, employee engagement or related roles.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing internal communication strategies and programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management abilities to lead project across sections and teams.
  • Proficiency with communication tools and platforms (eg. Sharepoint, intranet, content management etc)
  • Ability to create engaging content tailored to various audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with various stakeholders and employee teams.
  • Understanding of internal communications best practices and trends.
  • Knowledge of employee engagement techniques and strategies.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability to rapidly changing environment and priorities.
  • Ability to drive work independently and as a team.
  • High level of creativity and innovation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite. Experience in other software is an asset
     

Hourly Rate/Salary: $47.72 - $63.63
Hours of Work: 35
