Universal Design Specialist - Toronto

POSITION - UNIVERSAL DESIGN SPECIALIST

Role description:

We are looking for a Universal Design Specialist who is PASSIONATE about accessibility and universal design for complex projects from start to finish.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of work experience in an architectural/interior design office and be an out-of-the-box thinker with a holistic understanding of the design process and a talent for developing creative solutions that reflect an understanding of universal design.  Great career opportunity for a passionate and original mind to take on dynamic and challenging projects and be part of creative design initiatives on varied project typologies, both locally and internationally!

Role accountabilities:

• Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team (engineering, urban design, and others) to support the design and construction of design projects


• Assist with the integration of universal design principles into project designs, functional layouts, diagrams, and presentation materials based on complex programming requirements, including public and service areas


• Developing construction documents


• Assisting in the construction administration phase: general review, site instructions, change orders, and interpretation of contract specifications


• Assist Senior team members with other tasks, including updating logs and checklists, etc


• Thrive in a nimble project-driven environment

Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum Degree in Architecture or Interior Design


• Minimum 2 years of experience in an architectural/interior design firm working on projects with a focus on accessibility and universal design


• Project experience working with OBC, AODA, and Municipal Standards


• Persons with disabilities or lived experiences with persons with disabilities will be considered an asset


• Proficiency with Revit and BIM software, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office


• Well organized with the ability to manage time and deadlines in a fast-paced project environment
