Verafin - Lead Software Developer (Platform Modernization & Resilience Team)

We’re looking for a Lead Software Developer to join our Platform Modernization & Resilience team within the Application Infrastructure pillar. 

In this role, you’ll help shape how we modernize and scale our application infrastructure, ensuring our systems are reliable, resilient, and ready to support continued growth. You’ll work closely with development teams, architects, and cross-functional partners to design and evolve the platform that powers our services.

What You’ll Do 

• Lead and mentor developers across design, coding, and testing practices, helping raise the bar across the team 

• Design and support microservices deployed via Terraform in AWS environments 

• Contribute to and review Java code to resolve issues and deliver new features 

• Partner with architects to design and evolve cloud infrastructure and platform capabilities 

• Work across teams to ensure services are scalable, reliable, and aligned with disaster recovery expectations 

What You’ll Bring 

• A university degree or college diploma in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience 

• 4+ years of experience in software development 

• Strong experience in software development, with a focus on backend or platform engineering 

• Proven ability to lead technical work and mentor other developers 

• Hands-on experience with AWS and infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform 

• Experience working with Java in production environments 

• Strong understanding of system scalability, resilience, and reliability principles 

Nice to Have 

• Experience working on platform or infrastructure-focused teams 

• Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems 

• Experience supporting disaster recovery or resilience initiatives 

This position can be located in St. John’s or Toronto, and offers the opportunity for a hybrid work environment (at least 3 days a week in office, subject to change), providing flexibility and accessibility for qualified candidates.
