Job Description - Vice President, Academic & Applied Research

$118,935 - $154,615 (as of July 1, 2024)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of academic programming, services, and related functions.
  • Understanding of applied research practices and methodologies encompassing industry trends and challenges.
  • Knowledge of the higher education landscape including local, domestic, and international trends, challenges, and opportunities influencing post-secondary.
  • Ability to effectively exchange information.
  • Project management skills including academic planning and resource allocation.
  • Decision-making skills with the capacity for resolving issues in an open and consultative manner.
  • Ability to cultivate an inclusive culture of academic excellence with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Innovative mindset with a visionary and forward-thinking approach.
  • Experience in the administration of academic programs, services, and related functions such as academic planning and development, quality assurance and accreditation, research, and teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrated experience in senior management within a post-secondary environment.

Areas of responsibility will include Academic Development and Planning, Academic Quality Assurance, the Centre for Teaching and Learning Innovation, and the Office of Applied Research and Innovation. Additionally, there is oversight of six quality Schools : Academics, Applied Arts, and Tourism; Business and Information Technology; Engineering Technology; Health Sciences; Industrial Trades and Natural Resources; and Sustainable Development.

This position will require occasional travel, both domestic and international.

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Education (Post-Secondary) or Educational Leadership (equivalencies will be considered).
