Highlights of the Job

 

EPCOR Water Services (EWS) has an exciting opportunity for up to two (2) full-time temporary Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Operators to join our team at the Gold Bar site in Edmonton, AB. The term is up to 11 months.

 

As a WWTP Operator, you will be responsible for monitoring all operational aspects of the plant and associated biosolids management facility. This includes ensuring operations meet standards and procedures, and making control process adjustments as conditions change.

Key Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Wastewater Plant Operator I will be accountable for, but not limited to:

 

  • Monitoring and controlling processes and equipment.
  • Operating and inspecting various pieces of process equipment.
  • Reviewing computerized operating and laboratory data.
  • Operating digested sludge and decanted supernatant pipelines.
  • Performing:
    • Routine and non-routine process configuration activities per SOPs, including lock-out/tag-out, draining, de-pressurization, and flushing of isolated equipment.
    • Virtual rounds via the plant process control computer system.
    • Routine preventive maintenance activities.
    • General lagoon operational duties.
  • Participating in plant process cleaning activities.
  • Conducting routine process control tests to optimize plant processes.
  • Supervising collection, preparation, and delivery of wastewater, sludge, and related samples to the lab.
  • Recording process information in daily operations log sheets and electronic log book.
  • Completing work permits and hazard assessments before work begins.
  • Performing housekeeping and other related duties.
  • Providing guidance to less experienced Operators.

 

Qualifications & Skills

 

To be successful, you will have:

  • Education:
    • Grade 12 diploma (GED or equivalent).
    • NAIT Water & Wastewater Technician Certificate (or equivalent recognized by EPCOR).
       
  • Assets:
    • Level 1 Alberta Environment Wastewater Treatment Operator certification.
    • Experience working at a large (Class 4) WWTP.
    • Experience with working rotating shifts, and working on teams
    • Power Engineering certification.
  • Experience with Delta V and SCADA control systems.
  • Licensing:
    • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and ability to qualify for an EPCOR driver’s permit
      • Driving record must have no more than 6 demerits at the time of hire. Please note: prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours may result in non-selection, regardless of current demerits.
      • A current driver’s abstract may be requested if one is not already on file.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Ability to meet physical demands of the role.
    • Ability to perform work while wearing SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus)
    • Pre-placement medical and drug/alcohol testing may be required.
    • Proficiency in computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards.

 

Additional Details

 

  • Jurisdiction: CUPE 30
  • Grade/Class Code: 9200 (determined by certification level at hire)
  • Starting Wage: $39.70/hour (final wage based on CA provisions)
  • Hours of Work:
    • Plant operates 24/7, 365 days/year.
    • Rotating 12-hour shifts (average 40 hours/week).
