The Water and Waste Water Operator will be responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the City’s Waste Water Collection and Water Distribution Systems. The individual will demonstrate initiative on a daily basis, understand the role they play within the community and have excellent customer service skills.
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
- Ontario Ministry of Environment Waste Water Collection Class 1 License and Water Distribution Class 1 Certificate.
- Must possess a valid ‘DZ’ Class Ontario Driver’s License and maintain in good standing
- Must be able to understand water distribution maps and construction drawings and demonstrate the ability to perform all functions related to water distribution systems.
- Knowledge of the Safe Drinking Water Act as it pertains to Water Distribution Systems.
- Ability to work independently or in a team.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communications skills with a proven focus on service delivery.
- Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations specifically concerning the requirements for job hazard analysis and the development of and training on safe work procedures.
- Must be physically fit and able to lift 50lbs. frequently and occasionally up to 100lbs.
- Ability to perform manual labour for extended periods of time and willingness to work in varying climate conditions.
- Ability to get along well with others including supervisors, coworkers, members of the public and other partners in service.

Summary of Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of assigned duties and tasks to ensure operation, maintenance, and repair of Wastewater Collection and Water Distribution Systems.
- Performs construction and installation of new lines, existing line maintenance and repairs.
- Performs sewage pumping station maintenance and repairs.
- Operations a variety of large and small equipment, hand and power tools.
- Operates, maintains, and repairs all valves, fire hydrants, manholes, and all other appurtenances as it pertains to water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Troubleshoots and identifies water and wastewater flow problems.
- Must be prepared to work overtime, be available for call-outs, emergencies and stand-by.
