Water & Wastewater Plant Operator

JOB OVERVIEW:  Reporting to the Supervisor of Capital & Public Works, the Water & Wastewater Plant Operator is responsible performing technical work in monitoring and controlling the wastewater or water control systems of Driftpile Cree Nation (DCN). 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Operates, maintains and inspects wastewater treatment facilities and undertakes minor servicing of related   equipment.

·         Support the Water & Wastewater Plant Lead in monitoring, analyzing and adjusting process parameters.

·         Performs standard laboratory process testing and maintains accurate records and logs.

·         Participates on project teams and assists in the evaluation and implementation of technological improvements.

·         Participates in training as required to maintain certification.

·         Performs general Water & Wastewater Plant maintenance duties as required, including but not limited to:

o   Repainting treatment facility floors, marking uneven flooring.

o   Repainting pumphouses.

o   Repair fence surrounding the treatment facility.

o   Cleaning of debris around hydrants.

o   Clean up debris around the water lagoon cells.

o   Repair cracked base seals.

o   Fill water lagoons based on the quarterly schedule (March, May, September and December).

o   Annual flushing of lines throughout the community.

o   Annual pigging of lines from water lagoons to treatment facility.

·         Performs daily monitoring/operation of water plant and chemical levels.

·         Order supplies and chemicals for treatment facility and maintain accurate inventory records.

·         Provide coverage at the Water Treatment facility as needed.

·         Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Water and Wastewater Operator Certification (Small Systems) Level 1 required. Training may be provided to the incumbent.

·         Experience working with SAGR systems and UV water treatment systems is an asset.

·         Able to work in a team environment.

·         Verbal and written communication skills.

·         Fluency in Cree would be considered an asset.

·         A Police Information Check (PIC).
