Job Description - Water Resources Engineer

We are SLR Consulting (Canada), an 800+ team of advisory, environmental/engineering, and regulatory professionals across Canada.  We deliver environmental and sustainability services to our clients through the integration of over 30 advisory, technical environmental, and engineering disciplines to help clients address some of their most complex challenges around sustainability. We are Making Sustainability Happen.

As our new Water Resources Engineer, you will work mainly on water balance models and load balance assessments for mining sites in Canada, Australia, and Latin America. These models are typically developed in GoldSim in consultation with a team of hydrologists, hydrogeologists, and geochemists that develop and provide inputs to the models. This is a unique opportunity within SLR’s Hydrology and Hydrogeology division, where you will work within a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and be well-supported as a valued team member in western Canada or the USA.

Responsibilities
•    Review technical documents, reports, and drawings to extract key information relevant to new and ongoing projects
•    Identify the most appropriate data sources; lead data collection, processing, and management with strong QA/QC practices to ensure accuracy and traceability
•    Support early project scoping and conceptualization, including development of conceptual hydrological models and water-load balance models to guide numerical modeling efforts
•    Collaborate and coordinate with junior and senior staff and multidisciplinary team members to ensure efficient workflows and alignment with project goals, standards, and minimum quality requirements
•    Mentor junior staff by providing guidance on assigned tasks, reviewing deliverables, and supporting professional development toward higher-level technical skills.
•    Execute technical work with minimal supervision while maintaining proactive communication and coordination with the team to deliver work efficiently and on schedule
•    Develop, calibrate, and apply hydrological models and water-load balance models in accordance with project objectives and conceptualization plans.
•    Prepare clear documentation of methods, assumptions, inputs/outputs, and model configuration; write results, conclusions, and recommendations that are consistent, defensible, and reproducible
•    Maintain ownership of assigned project components by ensuring completeness, consistency with historical data and reporting, and suitability for future updates and use
